Recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) technology have enabled users to experience high-performance results in various fields of music. However since it was mainly developed for Western music, its limitations are revealed when applied to Korean traditional music. This fundamentally arises from the differences in the characteristics of Western music, where composition and performance are separated through notation, and the characteristics of Korean traditional music, which is based on live performance. In other words, characteristics of Korean traditional music, such as sigimsae that is difficult to quantify, theory that has a gap with physical reality, and improvised melodies, are obstacles to the application of existing AI technology. Therefore, it is necessary to first use AI to solve problems arising from the characteristics of Korean traditional music. Additionally, because non-Western music, including Korean traditional music, is a minority in the global music market, its characteristics have not been actively reflected in the development of AI technology. Reflections on this are being raised little by little, and there is a need for policy discussion in the direction of respect for cultural diversity while being wary of anti-bias that overemphasize the characteristics of non-Western music.

최근 인공지능 기술 발전으로 사용자들은 음악의 여러 분야에서 높은 성능의 결과물을 만날 수 있으나 이와 같은 기술은 주로 서양음악 중심으로 개발되었기 때문에 국악에 적용되었을 때는 한계 가 드러난다. 이는 근본적으로 기보법을 매개로 작곡과 연주가 분리된 서양음악의 특성과 현장성에 기초한 국악의 특성 차이에서 발생한다. 즉, 정량화가 힘든 시김새, 물리적 실제와 간극이 있는 이 론, 즉흥적으로 짜인 선율 등의 국악 특성이 기존 인공지능 기술 적용에 장애 요소가 되는 것이다. 따라서 국악 특성에서 발생하는 문제들을 해결하기 위한 작업에 인공지능을 먼저 활용할 필요가 있다. 또한 국악을 비롯한 비서구 음악이 세계 음악 시장에서 소수자로서 위치하기 때문에 인공지능 기술 개발에 그 특성이 적극 반영되지 못했다. 이에 대한 반성이 조금씩 제기되고 있으며, 비서구음 악의 특성을 지나치게 강조하는 반편향을 경계하는 가운데 문화 다양성 존중의 방향 속에서 정책적 으로 논의될 필요가 있다.
