The purpose of this article was to introduce research trends on Jeonbuk modern agricultural history, point out achievements and research tasks, and provide a future outlook. This article is organized into five themes: agricultural structure, landlord management, water supply business, peasant movement/ tenancy dispute, and rural society, and takes into consideration the following three points. First, paperson the topic of modern agriculture in Jeonbuk were collected regardless of academic journals or researchers. Second, the research was selected by topic rather than by period and reviewed historically. Third, in the case of books, most papers are re-included, so data from the year of first publication was used. If we organize and forecast research trends based on the summarized contents, first, research is being reduced along with the differentiation and expansion of research. Second, researchers are continuously aging and the concentration of a small number of researchers is progressing. Third, research methods that rely on institutional and policy data cannot be avoided. Fourth, interdisciplinary, joint research, and international research have raised Jeonbuk agricultural history to the next level. Considering the trends of downsizing, aging, and centralization of research, the prospects for research on modern regional agricultural history in Jeonbuk are not bright. This research situation suggests the need for new collaborative research in agricultural history research.

이 글은 전북 근대농업사에 관한 연구 동향을 소개하고 성과와 연구과제를 지적하면서 앞으로를 전망해 보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이 글은 농업구조, 지주경영, 수리사업, 농민운동·소작쟁의 그리고 농촌사회, 다섯 개의 주제로 정리하되 다음 세 가지 점을 고려하였다. 첫째, 전북 근대농업을 주제로 한 논문을 학회지나 연구자와 관계없이 수집하였다. 둘째, 시기별보다는 주제별로 선정하여 연구사적 검토를 하였다. 셋째, 저서인 경우 대부분 논문을 재수록하기 때문에 최초 발표연도의 자료를 사용하였다. 정리한 내용을 기초로 연구 경향을 정리, 전망하면 첫째, 연구의 분화·확대와 함께 연구의 축소가 이루어지고 있다. 조선인 지주의 자본가화 및 지주와 지역사회와의 관계, 재래 수리질서의 중시와 벽골제 논쟁화, 교육·의료 등으로의 영역 확대와 분화가 이루어지고 있다는 점에서 매우 긍정적인 경향이다. 그러나 전반적으로 전북 근대농업사의 연구 축적은 타지역에 비해 더딘 편이다. 둘째, 지속적으로 연구자의 노령화, 소수 연구자의 집중화가 진행되고 있다. 새로운 연구자들에 의한 논문이 적고, 소수의 연구자가 전체 연구의 반 정도를 차지할 정도로 연구 성과가 집중되어 있다. 셋째, 제도 사료·정책 사료에 의존하는 연구 방법을 벗어나지 못하고 있다. 대부분의 연구가 사료의 다변화, 빅데이터 분석화, 구술사 등의 방법을 도입하지 못했다. 넷째, 학제 및 공동연구, 국제연구는 전북 농업사를 한 단계 높였다. 두 권의 책(김영정 외 2006, 홍성찬 외 2004), 국제협력(정승진+마쓰모토)의 연구 성과는 높게 평가할 만하다. 이상 연구의 축소화·노령화, 집중화라는 경향을 보면 전북 근대 지역농업사 연구의 전망은 밝지 못하다. 이러한 연구 상황은 농업사 연구에 있어서 새로운 협동 연구의 필요성을 시사해준다.
