In this paper, we examined the characteristics and meaning of “Mago-oejeon (麻姑外傳)”, housed in Kawai collection, Kyoto University, Japan, is considered as a new Chinese version of “Sukhyangjeon”. First of all, “Mago-oejeon” is significant in that it is a Korean translation that relatively faithfully preserves the original work, unlike the existing Chinese version, which is a condensed version of the original Korean version and translated into Chinese. Among the Korean version of "Sukhyangjeon", the close relationship with the representative texts that maintain the original form of the work is confirmed. However, it is difficult to say that there is a direct relationship with "Mago Oejeon", and it is highly likely that it is a translated copy based on the older Korean texts of the original series. In addition, although it is part of "Mago Oejeon", there are settings, similar to the Chinese version, not the Korean version, and it seems to be the result of partially reflecting the tastes of who reads the Chinese version.

본고에서는 일본 교토(京都)대학교 가와이문고(河合文庫)에 소장되어 있는 한문필사본 <마고외전(麻姑外傳)>을 대상으로 하여, <숙향전(淑香 傳)>의 새로운 이본으로서 <마고외전>이 지닌 특성과 의미에 대해 살펴 보았다. <마고외전>은 원작 계열인 국문본을 축약하여 한역(漢譯)한 기존의 한 문본과는 달리, 원작을 비교적 충실히 살린 한역본이라는 점에서 중요한 의 의가 있다. 현재 전하는 국문본 중에서는 이대본과 한중연A본처럼 작품의 원형을 유지하고 있는 대표 이본들과의 친연성이 확인된다. 하지만 두 이본 모두 <마고외전>과 직접적인 관계가 있다고 보기는 어렵고, 한중연A본과 이대본에 선행(先行)하는 원작 계열의 국문본을 저본(底本)으로 삼아 한역 했을 가능성이 있다. 또한 일부이기는 하나 <마고외전>에는 국문본이 아니 라 한문본과 흡사한 설정도 있어, 한문본 향유자의 취향도 엿보이는 이본이 라고 할 수 있다.
