Isaiah Chapters 7-8 concern the alliance of the kings of Israel (the northern kingdom) and Syria against the westward expansion of the great power of Assyria and the attempt to bring Judah (the southern kingdom) into the alliance. When Ahaz, the king of Judah, refused this invitation the combined forces of Israel and Syria attacked Judah with the intention of placing a new person on his throne. This paper takes a closer look at the historical context of Isaiah 7-8. Structural analysis and the contextual location of these chapters reveal in detail the function and core message of this passage in the context of Isaiah 1-12. In this study, we examine the location and function of Isaiah 7-8 within the structure of chapters 1-12, make a detailed investigation of the historical background and situation of chapters 7-8, and use a hermeneutical approach to understand the diverging paths travelled by two different kinds of people. Those who are blind and deaf, including Ahaz, ignore the word of God. Those who trust God's word and plan and follow God's guidance with God as their head, including Isaiah, look to God in times of tribulation and suffering. This paper will examine the characteristics of the two types of people - those who do not follow God’s word; and the true people of God, that is, the “holy seed” - through the actual cases given in Isaiah 7-8.

이사야 7-8장의 내용은 강대국 앗수르가 서쪽으로 세력을 확장하는 것을 막기 위한 시리아-북이스라엘 왕들의 연합, 그리고 이들의 동맹 가담에 불응 한 남유다 왕 아하스를 새로운 인물로 대체하고자 시리아-북이스라엘 연합군 이 남유다를 공격한 사건을 배경으로 하고 있다. 이사야 7-8장 내용을 심층 적으로 고찰함에 있어서, 이러한 배후의 시대적 상황을 자세히 들여다볼 필요 가 있으며, 구조분석과 7-8장의 문맥적 위치를 통해 이사야 1-12장의 문맥상 기능과 핵심 메시지를 확인할 수 있다. 본 연구는 이사야 1-12장의 구조상 나타나는 7-8장의 위치와 기능 그리고 시대적 배경과 상황을 좀 더 자세히 알아보면서, 이를 통해 하나님의 말씀을 무시하고 인간이 계획한 길을 따른 아하스를 비롯하여 맹인과 귀머거리가 된 자들과 하나님의 말씀과 계획을 신 뢰하여, 하나님을 머리로 삼아 인도함을 따른 이사야를 비롯하여 환난과 고난 중에 하나님을 앙망하는 진정한 하나님의 백성, 즉 ‘거룩한 씨’ 두 종류의 사 람들의 특징을 7-8장의 실제 사례를 통해 살펴볼 목적이다.
