Exploring Factors that Affect COVID-19 Health Information Sharing Behaviors via Social Media : A Cross-Country Comparative Perspective Between South Korea and China

Based on the benefit-risk model, in this study, we aim to investigate factors influencing social media users’ sharing behaviors of COVID-19 relevant health information. Specifically, we seek to emphasize the effects of three antecedents of perceived trust and identify if there are any differences between South Korea and China, respectively. We conducted a cross-country survey in both South Korea and China, garnering 408 valid responses (South Korea: N = 201; China: N = 207) for final analysis. In summary, we observed differences in trust levels in information content and trust in social media platform between the two countries. Understanding how social media users assess the credibility of COVID-19 information can assist public health authorities and practitioners in building and maintaining trust, allowing them to tailor official messaging and interventions more effectively.
