The purpose of this study was to suggest the direction of Korean baseball, which has lost international competitiveness, through a comparative review with Japanese baseball. Through analysis of related researches such as Japan's Bukatsu, Koshien, and posting system, the background and current status of Japanese baseball were focused, and problems and improvement plans for Korean baseball were derived. First, the weekend league system was implemented, due to the absence of a social sports education environment, but problems were found. Second, the use of wooden bats' effect was found to be minimal for securing international competitiveness. Third, most of the domestic players' overseas advancement through the posting system was after their prime, and they failed and returned to the domestic league soon. As for improvement plans, first, it is necessary to reconsider whether the current student sports system is suitable for the Korean sports environment. Second, for the resurgence of high school baseball, changes to metal bats and holding national competitions linked to local and professional teams should be considered. Third, efforts should be made to generalize the formula of playing in domestic leagues and then advancing to overseas leagues by revising the posting system.

본 연구는 일본야구와의 비교고찰을 통해 국제경쟁력을 상실한 한국야구의 방향성을 제시하는 데 그 목적이 있었 다. 이를 위해 일본의 부카츠, 고시엔 및 포스팅 제도 등을 분석하여 일본야구의 국제경쟁력 유지 배경과 현황을 조명하고, 한국야구의 문제점, 개선방안 및 제언을 도출하였다. 그 결과로 첫째, 학생선수의 학습권 보장차원에서 주말리그제 등이 시행됐으나, 사회적 스포츠 교육환경 및 인프라의 부재로 훈련시간 부족, 대회의 서울(목동구장) 집중화 현상 등의 문제가 나타났다. 둘째, 국제경쟁력 확보 등의 명목으로 고교야구 나무배트 사용을 규정하였으나, 그 효과는 미미한 것으로 나타 났다. 셋째, 포스팅 제도를 통한 국내선수의 해외진출은 대부분 전성기가 지난 시점이었으며, 실패하여 곧 국내리그로 되돌아오는 경우가 많았다. 이러한 문제점에 대한 개선방안 및 제언으로는 첫째, 현 학생스포츠 제도가 한국 스포츠 환경 에 적합한지 재검토해야 한다. 둘째, 고교야구의 재흥행을 위하여, 금속배트로의 회귀와 지역 및 프로구단 연계형 전국대 회 개최를 고려해야 한다. 셋째, 포스팅 제도를 수정하고 국내리그 활약 후 해외리그 진출 공식을 일반화해야 한다. 마지막 으로, 다양한 분야의 연구자가 해외야구 제도 및 한국야구 발전 연구에 참여하도록 충분히 지원해야 한다.
