Romantic art of the 19th century shows the fusion of various forms, including poetry, music, and art. In this study, we will examine the meaning of Schubert's art songs as a convergence of music and poetry that appears in them. In order to analyze the artistic elements that appear in ‘ballads’ even in the form of art songs, we will discuss the musical methods of expressing poetry of the Romantic era, focusing on Schubert’s , and the new artistry shown by their fusion. The musical characteristics of ballads are different from ordinary songs, such as the formativeness of the work, dramatic structure, and structure of musical motive. Therefore, through Schubert's , we will examine the content and form of the ballad and find the meaning of the harmony of poetry and music. Based on this, the aim is to present the value of German art songs through the convergence value of German art songs and the harmonious expression of poetry and music.

19세기 낭만주의 예술은 시와 음악 그리고 미술까지 다양한 형태의 융합을 보인다. 이 연구에서는 예술가곡에서 나타나는 음악과 시의 융합적 표현으로 슈베르트의 예술가곡을 중심으로 그 의미를 살펴보고자 한다. 예술가곡의 형태에서도 ‘발라드’에 나타나는 예술적인 요소를 분석하기 위해 슈베르트 <마왕>을 중심으로 낭만시대의 시를 표현하는 음악적인 방법과 이들의 융합이 보여주는 새로운 예술표현을 논하고자 한다. 발라드의 악곡적인 특징은 작품의 조형성, 극적구조, 음악적 동기의 구조 등 보통의 가곡과는 구별된다. 따라서 슈베르트의 <마왕>의 작품을 통해 발라드의 내용과 형태를 알아보고 시와 음악의 조화가 주는 의미를 찾고자 한다. 이를 기초로 독일 예술가곡의 융합적 가치 및 시와 음악의 조화로운 표현을 통해 예술가곡의 가치를 제시하고자 하는 것이다.
