The purpose of this study is to verify the mediating effect of social atrophy in the relationship between depression and school life adaptation in multicultural youth. To this end, using data from a total of 1,146 high school seniors in 2019 (the third year of high school) in the Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study (MAPS), we examined the effects of depression and social withdrawal in adolescents from multicultural families on school life adaptation using SPSS 27.0 and AMOS 24.0 programs. As a result of the study, it was found that depression perceived by multicultural youth directly affects school life adaptation, and social withdrawal mediates the relationship between depression and school life adaptation. In other words, it was found that depression directly affects multicultural youth’s adaptation to school life, and depression indirectly affects school life through social withdrawal. Based on the results of this study, it suggested ways to reduce depression and social atrophy for multicultural youth to adapt to school life, various intervention strategies, and directions for follow-up research for psychological stabilization.

본 연구는 다문화 청소년을 대상으로 우울과 학교생활 적응의 관계에서 사회적 위축의 매개효과를 검증하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 다문화 청소년 패널조사(Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study: MAPS) 중 9차 연도에 해당하는 2019년(고등학교 3학년) 총 1,146명의 자료를 활 용하여 SPSS 27.0과 AMOS 24.0 프로그램을 사용하여 다문화가정 청소년의 우 울과 사회적 위축이 학교생활 적응에 미치는 영향에 대해 살펴보았다. 연구 결과, 다문화 청소년이 지각한 우울은 학교생활 적응에 직접적으로 영향을 미치는 것으 로 나타났으며, 우울과 학교생활 적응의 관계에서 사회적 위축은 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 다문화 청소년의 학교생활 적응에 있어 우울은 직접적으로 영향을 미 치며, 우울이 사회적 위축을 거쳐 학교생활에 간접적으로 영향을 미치고 있는 것으 로 나타났다. 본 연구 결과를 바탕으로 다문화 청소년의 학교생활 적응을 위해 우울과 사회적 위축을 감소하는 방안과, 다양한 개입 전략, 심리적 안정화를 위한 후속 연구의 방 향을 제시하였다.
