This study examined the impact of small and medium-sized enterprises' technological capabilities and innovation impediments on product innovation performance. In order to explore the relationship between the innovation performance of small and medium-sized manufacturing companies, which are the foundation of Korea's industry, we looked at the Korean Innovation Survey(KIS) data conducted by the Science and Technology Policy Institute(STEPI) to determine the 'innovation hindrance factors' of companies, the influence relationship on 'product innovation performance' was analyzed. While limiting the company's innovation performance to product innovation rather than a single dimension of sales or exports, it was divided into market-first product innovation and company-first product innovation and used this in the empirical analysis. Therefore, this study will examine the impact of technological capabilities on innovation performance in domestic manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises, and at the same time analyze in depth whether factors hindering innovation moderate the relationship between the two. In the end, we aim to stick to the purpose of providing strategic and policy implications necessary to help small and medium-sized enterprises strengthen their internal capabilities that will contribute to improving innovation performance.

본 연구는 중소기업의 기술역량, 혁신 저해 요인 및 제품혁신 성과와의 관계를 탐색하는 연구이 다. 우리나라 산업의 근간인 중소 제조업체의 기술역량이 제품혁신 성과에 미치는 영향을 확인하고 혁신 저해 요인이 기술역량과 혁신 성과 간의 관계를 조절하는지 여부를 분석할 것이다. 특히 내부 개발, 공동 연구 및 외주용역을 통합하여 단일 차원으로 기술역량을 측정하 는 한편, 혁신 성과를 시장 최초 및 자사 최초 제품혁신 성과로 구분하는 연구를 시도하였다. 이를 위해 과학기술정책연구원(STEPI)에서 진행한 2020년도 한국기업혁신조사(KIS)의 설문 데이터를 활용하여 통계적 실증분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과에 따르면 기술역량은 제품혁신 성과 모두에 유의한 정의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 혁신 저해 요인이 기술역량과 혁신 성과와의 관계를 약화시키는 것을 부분적으로 확인하였다. 결국 중소기업의 제품혁신을 위해서는 기술역량을 강화하는 한편, 무엇보다 재무적 제약요인을 완화하는 정책적 시도가 요구된다 하겠다.
