Smart education is a new educational paradigm in the era of digital AI for the modernization of education in China. Smart education pursues customized education by individuals, levels, and abilities, which can be implemented through the digitization of the educational environment and the advancement of educational governance using IT technologies such as AI. The Chinese government is bringing smart education to the fore in the 14th five-year plan, which shows that China's educational innovation has completely changed and developed from the existing ‘Internet+Education’ to ‘AI+Education’. In this paper, the concepts, goals, methods, and status of smart education in China were examined, focusing on smart education pillar plan, smart education development indices, smart education platforms, smart homework, smart campus, and smart physical education. China's educational innovation, represented by smart education at this stage, still prioritizes solving Chinese problems such as suppressing private education, closing gaps between regions, and improving the educational environment. However, it is essential to note that innovative experiments in smart physical education using cutting- edge IT technology are underway, providing valuable references for leading innovations. As for how these policies promoted by the Chinese government are actually being realized on the front line of the education field, further confirmation should be sought. However, considering the characteristics of China's political system and the achievements of China's continuous education development so far, the trend of digital-based education innovation is expected to persist and expand, even with any detailed adjustments due to internal and external conditions.

스마트 교육은 중국의 교육 현대화를 위한 디지털 인공지능 시대의 새로운 교육 패러다임이다. 스마트 교육은 개인별･수준별･능력별 맞춤형 교육을 추구하며 이는 인공지능 등 IT 기술을 활용한 디지털 교육 환경, 교육 거버넌스 고도화를 통해 구현될 수 있다. 중국 정부는 14차 5개년 계획에서 스마트 교육을 전면으로 내세웠는데, 이는 중국의 교육 혁신이 기존의 ‘인터넷+교육’에서 ‘인공지능+교육’ 으로 완전히 변화 발전하였음을 보여준다. 본고에서는 중국 스마트 교육의 개념 및 목표, 추진 방법 및 현황 등을 스마 트 교육 필러 플랜, 스마트 교육 발전 지수, 스마트 교육 플랫폼과 스마트 과제, 스마트 캠퍼스, 스마트 체육 등을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 현 단계 스마트 교육으 로 대표되는 중국의 교육 혁신은 사교육 억제, 지역 간 격차 해소, 교육 환경 개 선 등 여전히 기존의 중국 교육이 처한 현실적 문제들을 해결하는 데 우선 순위 를 두고 있지만, 최첨단 IT 기술을 활용한 스마트 체육 등은 우리가 참조할 만한 선도적인 혁신 실험이 진행되고 있다는 점에서 주목할 필요가 있다. 중국 정부가 추진하는 이 같은 정책들이 교육 현장 일선에서 실제로 어떻게 실현되고 있는가에 대해서는 추후 확인 작업이 보완되어야 할 것이나, 중국 정치 체제의 특성과 지금까지 이어져 온 중국 교육 발전의 성과를 고려할 때 대내외 여건으로 인한 세부적인 조정이 있을지라도 디지털 기반 교육 혁신의 추세는 계 속 이어지고 확대될 것으로 전망된다.
