This thesis is a study on the thought of Jeon Bong-jun, who was the leader of the Donghak Peasant Revolution. In particular, this thesis aims to analyze Jeon Bong-jun's humanistic thoughts and political consciousness. Jeon Bong-Jun's ideological foundation was derived from the humanistic view of human beings that people are the most precious in the world. Jeon Bong-joon's view of human beings was a horizontal and equal view of human beings on universal human values regardless of class or status. For that reason, the society Jeon Bong-jun looked at was a community society of equal and mutually beneficial mutual benefit. Jeon Bong-joon's warm gaze toward society was directed toward all the people. In particular, there was a lot of interest in the social, economic, and political underprivileged. He treated everyone equally and tried to discriminate on the basis of justice regardless of status or position. However, the reality Jeon Bong-jun faced was unequal, and the people were groaning due to various social contradictions and absurdities. Jeon Bong-Jun's political consciousness develops to the level where traditional monarchism is dismantled and the people directly deal with the king.

본 논문은 동학농민혁명의 지도자였던 전봉준 사상에 관한 연구이다. 특히 본 논문은 전봉준의 생태인본주의 사상과 정치의식을 중심으로 분석하였다. 전봉준의 사상적 바탕은 무엇보다 세상에서 사람이 가장 귀하다는 인본주의 적 인간관에서 비롯되었다. 전봉준이 바라본 인간은 신분과 지위에 관계없는 보 편적 인본가치 위에 있는 수평적인 평등한 인간관이었다. 더 나아가 전봉준의 사상은 사람을 중심에 놓되 다른 생명체를 존중하는 우주적 생명관을 기반으로 한 생태인본주의였다. 전봉준이 바라본 사회는 평등하고 서로 돕는 상생의 공동체 사회였다. 사회를 바라보는 전봉준의 따듯한 시선은 모든 민중을 향하고 있었다. 특히 사회적･경 제적･정치적 약자에 대한 관심이 많았다. 모든 사람을 대등하게 대하였으며 신 분과 지위에 관계없이 공의를 기준으로 분별하고자 하였다. 그러나 전봉준이 마주한 현실은 불평등하였고 여러 사회적 모순과 부조리로 민중들이 신음하고 있었다. 전봉준의 정치의식은 전통적인 근왕주의가 해체되고 민이 국왕을 직접 상대하는 수준까지 발전하는데, 그것은 민중이 중세의 질곡에서 벗어나 국가의 주체인 국민으로 재구성되는 새로운 시대의 탄생을 준비하고 있는 것이다.
