Similar to the global community facing polycrisis, churches are also confronted with the crisis of sustainability. This paper emphasizes the interaction of three characteristics of the multifaceted crisis—climate crisis, socio-economic crisis, and democratic crisis—making sustainability challenging for the Korean Protestant church’s ministry and survival. Environmental degradation and ecosystem changes due to the climate crisis directly impact the worship and community activities of the church, while the socio-economic crisis reduces church finances, leading to a contraction of pastoral and missionary work. The democratic crisis challenges the decision-making structure and operational methods of the church. In the midst of these multiple crises, the church stands at a point where it needs to explore a new sustainable ministry model. As a response to this challenge, this paper argues that ecological, missionary, and structural transformations are necessary for the churches to address the polycrisis. Ecological transformation entails moving away from anthropocentric theology to adopt an ecocentric approach. Missionary transformation involves restoring social solidarity through activities that meet the needs of local communities and the global community while proclaiming the Gospel. Structural transformation refers to fair and transparent changes in the decision-making structure and pastoral operations of the church. This paper proposes a sustainable church model applying Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) values as theological tools for these three transformations. ESG ministry consists of symbiotic ministry pursuing the restoration of the global life community in the environmental aspect, cooperative ministry realizing the values of the Kingdom of God and serving the local community in the social aspect, and just ministry incorporating fair decision-making and embracing diverse opinions in the governance aspect. In conclusion, this paper argues that in the age of the polycrisis, the church can secure sustainability through ESG ministry. Furthermore, it can restore its identity as a public church, fulfilling the essence of church being a community of public service.

개별적 위기가 복합적으로 상호 연결되어 나타나는 다중위기 시대에 한국교회는 지속가능성의 도전에 직면해 있다. 본 논문은 기후 위기, 사회경제 위기, 민주주의 위 기의 세 가지 다중위기적 특징이 교회의 목회 활동과 생존에 상호작용하여 지속가능 성을 어렵게 만든다는 점을 강조한다. 기후 위기로 인한 환경 파괴와 생태계 변화는 교회의 예배 및 공동체 활동에 직접적인 영향을 미치고, 사회경제 위기는 교회 재정 을 감소시켜 목회 및 선교 사역의 축소를 초래한다. 민주주의 위기는 교회의 의사결 정 구조와 운영 방식에 도전을 제기한다. 이러한 다중위기 속에 한국교회는 새로운 지속가능한 목회 모델을 모색해야 하는 시점에 서 있다. 이에 대한 해답으로 본 논문은 교회가 다중위기에 대응하기 위해서는 생태적, 선교 적, 구조적 전환이 필요하다고 주장한다. 구체적으로 인간중심주의적 신학에서 벗어나 다른 피조 생명체와의 유기체적 관계를 설정하는 생태적 전환, 사사화된 복음이 아닌 공적 복음의 특징을 통해 지역 사회와 지구촌의 공동선을 도모하는 선교적 전환, 교 회의 의사결정 구조와 목회 운영 구조를 공정하고 투명한 방향으로 변화시키는 구조 적 전환이다. 본 논문은 이 세 가지 전환을 이루기 위한 목회 신학적 성찰로 ESG(환경, 사회, 지배구조) 가치를 적용한 지속가능한 교회 모델을 제안한다. ESG 목회는 환경 측면 에서는 지구생명 공동체의 회복을 추구하는 공생 목회, 사회 측면에서는 하나님 나라 의 가치를 실현하고 지역 사회에 봉사하는 공동선 목회, 지배구조 측면에서는 공정한 의사결정과 다양한 의견을 수용하는 공정 목회로 구성된다. 종합적으로, 이 논문은 다중위기 시대에 한국교회가 ESG 목회를 통해 지속가능성 을 확보할 수 있게 되며, 더 나아가 교회됨의 본질인 공(公)교회로서의 정체성도 회복 할 수 있게 된다고 주장한다.
