In this study, the experiences of migrant workers who stayed for a long time in Korea were analyzed. In addition, we explored the life journey of migrants who struggled to become local residents one step more actively than we, who are indigenous people. To this end, this study used data from interviews with 13 migrant workers for about 3 months from October to December 2023. In addition, using qualitative case research methods, we tried to look in-depth by paying attention to the difference that Deleuze talks about the process of ‘being a local resident’ of migrant workers. The experience of ‘being local resident-’ of migrant workers examined through the research results was driven by the deficiencies experienced in their respective situations and context and began by actually moving to Korea. Migrant workers were realizing ‘being local resident-’ through differences that allowed them to create a new identity away from the paradigm of identity for ‘migrant workers’ created by our society. In addition, the learning revealed in the process of ‘being local resident-’ of migrant workers can be interpreted through connection and arrangement with indigenous residents.We should consider the question of how to greet migrant workers living in Korea for a long time even without Korean nationality. Therefore, it is necessary to break away from the perceptions and ideas of migrant workers that are fixed on our own. In addition, as indigenous people, we must experience relationships by expanding the opportunities we face and contact with migrants.

본 연구에서는 국내 장기체류한 이주노동자들의 경험을 통해 선주민인 우리보다 한 발 더 적극적으로 지역주민이 ‘되기’ 위해 고군분투하였던 이들의 삶의 여정을 들여다 보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 본 연구는 이주노동자 13명을 대상으로 2023년 10월부터 12월까지 약 3개월간 면담한 자료를 활용하였다. 또한 질적사례연구방법을 활용하여 이주노동자들의 ‘지역주민-되기’ 과정을 들뢰즈가 이야기하는 ‘차이’에 주목함으로써 심층적으로 들여다보고자 하였다. 연구결과를 통해 살펴본 이주노동자들의 ‘지역주민-되기’의 경험은 각자의 상황과 맥락에서 경험된 결핍에 의해 추동되어 실제 한국으로 이주함으로써 시작되었다. 이주 노동자들은 우리사회가 만들어 놓은 ‘이주노동자’에 대한 동일성의 패러다임에서 벗어 나 새로운 정체성을 창조해 나가게 하는 차이를 통해 ‘지역주민-되기’를 실현하고 있었 다. 또한 이주노동자의 ‘지역주민- 되기’ 과정에서 드러난 배움은 선주민과의 접속과 배치를 통해 해석될 수 있다. 한국국적을 취득하지는 않았지만 국내에서 장기체류하며 살아가는 이주노동자들을 선주민인 우리가 어떠한 태도로 맞이할 것인가 하는 문제는 중요하다. 따라서 우리 스스로 고착화하고 있는 이주노동자에 대한 인식과 관념에서 벗어나 이들과 직접 마주치 고 접촉하는 기회를 확장해 감으로써 이주노동자들과 관계할 수 있는 경험을 하는 것 이 필요하다.
