In this study, we analyzed 336 articles from seven prominent academic journals published in Vietnam to discern trends in research on East Asian Sino words. We scrutinized the distribution of articles by publication year and journal and conducted frequency-based analysis of keywords. Subsequently, through a multilayered analysis focused on titles, keywords, abstracts, and full texts of the papers, we identified research topics, subjects, and methodologies. And then, we categorized the articles by language (Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese and Korean) and examined specific research trends of Sino words in Vietnam focusing on the research content. As a result, there were few studies from the late 1970s to 1989, but from the mid-to-late 1990s to 2022, studies on East Asian Sino words gradually increased in Vietnam. The present study found that research on East Asian Sino words in Vietnam has been conducted in many different aspects, with a focus on Vietnamese Sino words. In cross-linguistic studies, there were many studies mainly dealing with two languages. We have confirmed that studies comparing and contrasting Sino words in Vietnamese and Sino words in Chinese occupy an overwhelming proportion in studies dealing with two languages, and that studies are actively being conducted in various fields. To better understand East Asian Sino words and facilitate interlingual exchanges and research, however, more research on Korean Sino words and Japanese Sino words is needed. It is also necessary to expand research to include cross-examinations between Korean Sino words and Vietnamese Sino words and between Japanese Sino words and Vietnamese Sino words. To achieve in-depth insights, the present study suggests that it is necessary to conduct a microscopic analysis of specific vocabularies by comparing and contrasting them, or to conduct further research focusing on particular types of documents or time period. This study is significant because it provides foundational data for subsequent research and contributes to a larger research project on East Asian Sino words.

본 연구는 베트남의 한자, 언어학, 중국학, 일본학 관련 주요 학술지 7종에서 수집한 336편의 논문을 대상으로 하여 연도별 논문 수, 학술지별 논문 수의 분포와 키워드 빈도를 분석하였다. 그리고 대상 논문의 제목, 키워드, 초록, 원문을 중심으로 연구 주제, 연구 분야, 연구 방법 등을 다층적으로 분석한 후, 각 논문을 한중일월 언어별로 구분하여 연구 내용에 주안점을 두고 베트남의 동아시아 한자어 연구 동향을 구체적으로 살펴보았다. 그 결과, 1970년대 후반부터 1989년까지는 베트남의 동아시아 한자어 연구가 많지 않았으나, 1990년대 중후반부터 2022년까지는 관련 연구가 점진적으로 증가하는 추세를 보였다. 그리고 키워드 빈도 분석을 통해 베트남의 동아시아 한자어 연구는 주로 베트남어 한자어를 중심으로 다양한 주제와 영역에서 다각도로 수행되고 있음이 확인되었다. 또한 다층 분석을 통해 연구 동향을 살펴본 결과, 단일 언어 한자어 연구에서 베트남어 한자어 연구가 가장 많은 비중을 차지하며, 여러 분야에서 다양한 시각으로 연구가 수행되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 교차 언어적 한자어 연구에서는 주로 2개 언어를 다루는 연구가 많았으며, 2개 언어를 다룬 연구에서도 중월 연구가 압도적인 비중을 차지하고 있으며, 다양한 분야에서 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 그런데 동아시아 한자어 이해와 언어 간 교류, 관련 연구의 발전을 위해서는 한국어 한자어, 일본어 한자어에 대한 연구와 한국어 한자어와 베트남어 한자어 간, 일본어 한자어와 베트남어 한자어 간의 교차적 연구가 확대되어야 할 필요가 있다. 그리고 좀 더 심도 있는 연구를 위해서 미시적 관점에서 특정 어휘를 분석하고 비교･대조하거나 문헌 등의 특정 대상이나 특정 시기에 초점을 맞춘 연구도 필요해 보인다. 본 연구는 동아시아 전반의 한자어 연구 동향 분석의 일환으로 베트남의 동아시아 한자어 연구 동향을 분석한 것으로, 후속 연구의 기초자료를 제공한다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
