This essay is a philosophical study to reveal Hu hong’s view to the Confucian orthodoxy. Hu hong, an eminent philosopher who lived during the period of the fall of the Northern Song Dynasty and the re-establishment of the Southern Song Dynasty, was faithful to the ideology of Dao xue and presented a theory of Confucianism appropriate to it. In his collection of poetry and writings, several works provide a significant meaning into Hu hong’s theory of Confucianism. Through my analysis of his two pieces of work, Foreword to Cheng-zi Ya-yan and Afterword to Cheng-zi Ya-yan, we can know Hu hong’s interest was focused on his time, and in particular, determining the place of moral and historical significance of the Cheng brothers was the core of his theory of Confucianism. His point of view was also represented in Zhu Xi’s Preface to the Book of Mean, and can be called the ‘Chengfuzi sole orthodoxy’ now. The evaluation of Confucian pupil Yan Yuan, also an important figure in the Confucian Orthodoxy, was a topic of great debate throughout the history of Song and Ming Confucianism. In the Preface for Zhang Jingfu’s Xi-yan-lu, Hu hong evaluated Yan Yuan and presented a unique opinion that was different from other Confucian scholars of the Song and Ming Dynasty. According to Hu hong, the regulation of Yan Yuan should be relied on the Analects of Confucius and the Book of Mean, and so it should be understood the ‘integrity of identity’ thesis which was derived from the Book of Mean.

북송의 멸망과 남송의 재창건 시기에 살았던 도학자 호굉은 도학의 이념에 충실했고 그에 맞는 도통론을 제시했다. 그의 시문집인 『오봉집』에는 호굉의 도통론을 엿볼 수 있는 몇 편의 글이 남아 있다. ｢정자아언전서｣와 ｢정자아언후서｣의 분석을 통해, 호굉의 관심이 그의 시대의 학에 집중되어 있으며, 특히 정씨 형제의 도학적, 역사적 의의의 자리를 매기는 일이 그의 도통론의 중핵이라는 점을 밝혔다. 이것을 ‘정부자 유일 정통론’이라고 부를 수 있는데, 주희의 ｢중용장구서｣에도 반영되어 있다. 도통의 중요 인물인 안연에 대한 평가는 송명 유학사를 통해 큰 논쟁거리였다. 호굉은 ｢제장경부희안록｣에서 안연을 평가하면서 다른 송명시대 개별 유학자와 다른 독특한 견해를 밝힌다. 호굉에 따르면, 안연에 대한 규정은 『논어』와 『중용』을 위주로 해야 하며 그 핵심은 ‘성신’ 명제로 이해할 수 있다는 것이다.
