This study aims to examine the relationship between community policing and fear of crime in business owners based on community policing and social disorganization theories. As crime toward business owners may bring negative effects physically and mentally, our society considers it as a serious problem. Particularly, victims from this crime have experienced high level of stress emotionally. Therefore, the roles of neighborhood and police officers are emphasized to reduce fear of crime in business owners. To achieve the goals, we have used Process Macro analysis to examine the moderating effect of crime prevention activities. Specifically, we have categorized the activities as tool-based and behavior-based and compared them. As a result, behavior based crime prevention activities is statistically significant. Based on the results, we have discussed the importance of voluntary crime prevention activities by business owners.

사업체를 대상으로 발생하는 범죄는 사업체 업주와 직원, 손님에게 물리적ㆍ정서적 피해를 발생시킬 수 있기에 우리 사회에서 비교적 심각한 사회문제로 여겨진다. 특히 피해자는 범죄두려움과 같은 정서적 문제로 인해 더 큰 스트레스와 고통을 경험하고 있으며, 이러한 범죄두려움을 감소시키기 위해서는 지역주민과 경찰의 역할이 더욱 중 요하게 고려되어야 한다. 이 연구는 지역사회경찰활동이론과 사회해체이론을 기반으로 지역사회경찰활동과 범죄두려움의 관계에 대해 경험적으로 검증하고, 사업체 관리자의 범죄두려움을 감소시키기 위하여 어떠한 정책적 대안이필요한지 제언하고자 수행되었 다. 연구 결과, 지역사회경찰활동 인식이 범죄두려움에 유의미한 부적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 자발적 범죄예방활동의 조절효과도 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 행동을 통한 범죄예방활동을 수행할 때 지역사회 경찰활동이 범죄두려움에 미치는 부적 영향이 극대화되는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 지역사회경찰활동과 사업체 관리자의 자 발적 범죄예방활동이 함께 행해졌을 때 범죄예방의 효과성이 커지는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한연구결과에 따라 공식적ㆍ비공식적사회통제를 함께 행할수 있도록 개인적ㆍ정책적 노력이 필요함을 보여준다.
