The current study aims to identify the direct impacts of patriarchal beliefs and cognitive·emotional empathy on anti-attitudes toward homosexuality among criminal justice majors. More importantly, this study attempts to test the mediating effects of patriarchal beliefs and cognitive·emotional empathy in the relationship between criminal justice majors’ individual characteristics/educational experience and attitudes toward homosexuality. Results show that criminal justice majors with a stronger patriarchal beliefs and lower levels of cognitive·emotional empathy exhibited more strongly negative attitudes toward homosexuality. The findings also indicate that patriarchal beliefs and cognitive·emotional empathy mediated the effects of individual characteristics(male, heterosexual)/educational experience(taking a course addressing homosexuality issues, elective course, perceived quality of courses) on anti-homosexuality attitudes. The educational implications aimed at addressing anti-homosexuality attitudes, limitations of this research, and suggestions for future research were discussed.

본 연구는 형사사법학 전공자들의 가부장 신념과 인지적·정서적 공감이 동성애 태 도에 미치는 직접적 영향과 이들의 개인적·교육 경험 특성과 동성애 태도 간의 관계에 서 두 요인(가부장 신념, 인지적·정서적 공감)의 매개효과를 검증하기 위해 수행되었 다. 분석 결과, 연구 대상자가 강한 가부장 신념을 지니고 있을수록, 인지적·정서적 공 감 능력이 낮을수록 동성애에 대한 편견적 인식과 적대적 태도를 지닌 것으로 나타났 다. 또한 전공자들의 개인적(남성, 이성애자)·교육 경험(동성애 주제 강의, 선택과목, 강의질) 특성과동성애태도간의관계에서 가부장 신념과 인지적·정서적 공감의 부분 또는 완전매개효과를 확인하였다. 형사사법학 전공자들의 동성애에 대한 편견적 인식 과 적대적 태도 개선을 위한 제언과 연구의 한계점 및 후속 연구에 대한 조언을 논의하였다.
