This study aimed to seek for direction of change for recruitment of new students and improvement of registration management to be developed by universities that operate departments related to police science by making an empirical analysis on the college selection determinants of freshmen who entered departments related to the major of police science in Gangwon province. As a result of study, first, determinants of freshmen entering departments related to police science analyzed through a technical analysis show that values of majors, scholarship and benefits of student welfare, geographical position, facilities, employment rate and employment prospects of universities after graduation were generally high. And the result of IPA on the overall determinants of entrance indicate that facilities, scholarship and benefits of student welfare and employment rate of universities were major determinants of entrance. Accordingly, based on the results of analysis mentioned above, the factors considered commonly by the freshmen enrolled in departments related to the major of police science in Gangwon province can be shortened as factors related to employment such as employment prospects after graduation and employment rate, scholarship and benefits of student welfare, facilities of universities etc. Therefore, it would be desirable for departments related to the major of police science to organize curriculum for enabling intrinsic education of college to be in harmony with examination-oriented practical education by reflecting awareness of education consumers who wish to branch out into the field of police and criminal justice based on college education. And universities also need to make efforts for quantitative and qualitative improvement of employment rate by discovering subjects corresponding to the demand for human resources in the field of new industries and safety such as scientific security that is gaining more social interest and significance as well as continuous development and reorganization of curriculum that can satisfy educational interest of education consumers in the field of police science who desire to enter the field related to one’s major. In addition, continuous investment in education consumers, improvement of infrastructure and expansion of student welfare system through a variety of efforts for securing finances are clearly an essential strategy for university headquarters to recruit new students in the period of decrease in school-age population.

이 연구에서는 강원지역 경찰학 전공 관련 학과에 입학한 신입생들의 대학선택 결 정요인을 실증적으로 분석함으로써 향후 경찰학 전공 관련 학과와 해당 학과를 운영하 고 있는 각 대학들이 전개해야 할 신입생 유치와 이후의 등록관리 제고를 위한 변화 방 향을 모색하고자 하였다. 연구결과 먼저, 기술 분석을 통해 분석한 경찰학 전공 관련 학과 신입생들의 입학 결정요인으로는 대학의 전공계열, 장학금 및 학생복지 혜택, 대학의 지리적 위치, 대학 의 시설, 대학의 취업률, 졸업 후 취업 전망 등이 대체로 높은 값으로 나타나고 있다. 그리고 전체적인 입학결정 요인에 대한 IPA 분석결과에서는 졸업 후 취업전망, 대 학시설, 장학금 및 학생복지 혜택, 그리고 대학의 취업률 등이 주요한 입학결정 요인임 을 알 수 있다. 따라서 이와 같은 분석결과를 종합해볼 때 강원권에 소재한 경찰학 전공 관련 학과 에 재학 중인 신입생들이 대학과 학과를 선택함에 공통적으로 고려한 요인은 졸업 후 취업전망과 대학의 취업률 등 취업 관련 요인, 장학금과 학생복지 혜택, 대학시설 등으 로 압축된다. 따라서 경찰학 전공 관련 학과에서는 대학교육을 발판으로 경찰과 형사사법 분야로 진출하고자 하는 교육수요자들의 인식을 반영하여 학과의 교육의 대학 본연의 교육과 수험 지향적 실용적 교육이 적절한 조화를 이루도록 구성하는 것이 바람직할 것이다. 그리고 경찰학 분야 교육 수요자들의 교육적 흥미와 전공 분야 진출에 대한 관심을 충족시켜줄 수 있는 전공 교육과정의 지속적 개발 및 개편과 더불어 사회적 관심과 중 요도가 높아지고 있는 과학치안 등 신산업 분야와 안전 분야의 인력수요에 부합하는 교과목을 지속적으로 발굴하여 취업률의 양적, 질적 제고가 이루어질 수 있도록 해야 할 것이다. 또한 대학본부 차원에서는 다양한 재정확보 노력을 통해 교육수요자에 대한 지속적 투자와 인프라 개선, 학생복지제도의 확대가 이루어지도록 하는 것이 학령인구 감소시 대의 신입생 유치를 위한 필수 전략임이 분명할 것이다.
