This paper examines the intersection of the 1893 Chicago Parliament of the World's Religions and the religious peace movement of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, noting the emphasis on interreligious dialogue for the search for common ethics and values and the role of religion for global peace, as a concrete realization of the Principle of Co-righteousness in Unification Thought. Furthermore, it was suggested that the ideological basis of the religious peace movement through interfaith solidarity can be the Principle of Co-righteousness of Unification Thought, and that the religious peace movement through such interfaith solidarity is the way forward for religion in the 21st century multi-religious global community. According to the Principle of Co-righteousness in Unification Thought, when a common ethical society is established through the dynamic practice of love by the three Great subjects of Parents, Teachers, and Leaders, modeled on a family ethic centered on God’s true love, religion will no longer be necessary. At the same time, this paper notes that Unification Thought's description of the Principle of Co-righteousness emphasizes the role of religion in realizing the highly ethical society. It clarifies that the family, where the love of parents and children and the connection of life and lineage are the universal conditions under which the dynamic movement of true love takes place, is the base of common ethics. However, the reality of families of the fallen world is far from the ideal family as the cradle of Co-rigtheousness and can easily be reduced to narrow-minded and selfish familism. Therefore, the role of religion, which emerged to restore the fallen world to its original ideal, becomes important in the process of realizing a co-righteous and ethical society. By stimulating the universal conscience of individuals and promoting their orientation towards the larger cosmic family, religions can create a great solidarity that leads to the search for common human values and ethics. Therefore, the religious peace movement, which seeks to contribute to the peace of mankind by searching for common human values and ethics together on a trans-religious basis beyond religious differences, has value as an important resource for understanding the theoretical implications and concrete practice of the Principle of Co-righteousness at the center of th idealism of Family Federation for World Peace and Unification.

본 논문은 종교간 대화운동의 효시라 할 수 있는 1893년 시카고 세계종교회의의 정신과 세계평화통일가정연합의 종교평화운동의 접점으로 인류 공통의 윤리와 가치 모색을 위한 종교간 대화와 협력의 역할 강조에 주목하고 이를 통일사상의 공의주 의의 구체적 실현사례로 고찰하였다. 나아가 참사랑을 중심한 가정 뿐 아니라 종교 의 역할을 강조하는 공의주의가 초종교적 연대와 종교평화운동의 이념적 기반이 될 수 있으며, 초종교적 종교평화운동이야말로 21세기 다종교적 지구공동체의 상황에 서 종교가 나아갈 필연적 길임을 제시하고자 하였다. 통일사상의 공의주의는 하나님의 참사랑을 중심한 가정윤리를 모델로 삼는 3대 주체(참부모, 참스승, 참주인)의 역동적인 참사랑의 실천으로 공동윤리사회가 이루 어지면 더 이상 종교가 필요하지 않게 된다고 한다. 본 논문은 그와 동시에 통일사 상의 공의주의 서술이 도의세계 실현을 위한 종교의 역할을 강조하고 있음에 주목 하였다. 통일사상의 공의주의는 참사랑의 역동적 운동이 일어나는 보편적인 조건으 로서 부모와 자녀의 사랑과 생명과 혈통이 연결되는 가정이 윤리의 거점임을 명확 히 한다. 그러나 타락한 현실세계의 가정은 공의주의의 요람으로서의 이상가정과 간극이 있으며, 쉽게 편협하고 이기적인 가정주의로 축소될 위험도 있다. 따라서 공의 주의적인 이상사회의 실현 과정에서 타락한 세계를 본연의 이상으로 회복하기 위해 등장한 종교의 역할이 있는 것이다. 현실 가정의 한계를 넘어 개인의 보편적 양심을 자극하고 더 큰 우주적 가정을 지향하게 하는 종교는 인류 공통가치와 윤리를 찾아 가게 하는 커다란 연대를 이루는 역할을 해야 한다. 따라서 종교의 차이를 넘어 초종교적으로 인류 공통의 가치와 윤리를 함께 모색 하여 인류의 평화에 기여하고자 하는 종교평화운동은 가정연합의 공생공영공의주의 의 근간인 공의주의의 이론적 함의와 구체적 실천의 방향을 이해하는 데 중요한 자 료로서 가치를 지닌다.
