This research provides a critical examination of the current status, challenges, and limitations of South Korea's "Physician-Scientist Training Program." It adopts a practical, field-centered perspective, with a primary focus on developing comprehensive enhancement strategies. South Korea is recognized for its world-class medical-bio technology; however, it lacks research outcomes that have a tangible impact on the public or the capacity to address societal issues, in contrast to international counterparts. To tackle these limitations, the government has implemented various policy initiatives, including the refinement of industry-specific regulations and the promotion of autonomy for private enterprises. Additionally, the "Physician-Scientist Training Program" plays a crucial role in accelerating the social application and dissemination of achievements within the medical-bio field. Numerous projects are currently underway in different government ministries, with a tendency to prioritize the strengthening of individual research capabilities. However, achieving more systematic and integrated results requires the establishment of a new governance framework. As a result, this article aims to provide practical recommendations using a Focus Group Interview (FGI) approach, with the goal of nurturing research-oriented physicians and producing results that resonate with the general public.

본 논문은 국내에서 활발하게 추진되고 있는 “의사과학자 양성 사업”에 대하여 현황과 문제점, 한계성을 현장 중심의 실무적 관점에서 검토하고 이에 대한 종합적인 개선방안 마 련에 대한 논의를 중심으로 하고자 한다. 우리나라 의료-바이오 분야 기술은 세계 최고 수 준이라고 할 수 있으나, 해외와 달리 국민 체감형, 사회문제 해결형 연구성과는 많지 않다. 이런 한계를 극복하기 위해서 정부는 현장 중심의 규제개선, 민간 기업 자율성 확보 등 다 양한 정책을 추진하고 있다. 또한 이와 더불어 “의사과학자 양성사업”을 통해 의료-바이오 분야 성과의 빠른 사회적 적용과 확산을 추진하고 있다. 현재 많은 정부 부처에서 추진 중 인 여러 사업은 개인적 차원에 연구역량 강화를 추진하는 경향이 있으며, 이를 보다 체계 적이며, 융합적인 성과를 도출하기 위해서는 새로운 거버넌스가 필요하다. 이에 따라 본 논문에서는 연구하는 의사를 배출하고 국민이 체감하는 성과를 만들기 위해 FGI를 통해서 실무적 관점에서 정잭적 제언을 수행하고자 하였다.
