This study identified the mediating effect of a sense of control on the relationship between geriatric anxiety and depression among community-dwelling elderly using a cross-sectional survey with a convenient sampling method. The structured questionnaire included items from the geriatric anxiety, depression, and sense of control. To analyze the mediating effect of a sense of control in the relationship between geriatirc anxiety and depression, hierarchical multiple regression analysis was performed. Analysis of the effect of a sense of control showed that there was a significant mediating effect of a sense of control on the relationship between geriatric anxiety and depression. The findings suggest that a sense of control may play a role in reducing the impact of geriatric anxiety on older adults' on depression and underscore the need to consider ways of enhancing the sense of control in depression-related interventions for community-dwelling elderly.

본 연구는 지역사회 거주 노인을 대상으로 불안, 우울, 자아통제감 정도를 파악하고, 노인의 불안과 우울과의 관계에서 자아통제감의 매개효과를 확인하기 위한 단면적 서술조사 연구로 시도되었다. 연구 대상자는 A시에 거주하는 60세 이상 지역주민 중 편의 표출법에 의해 모집된 159명을 대상으로 하였으며, 구조화된 설문지를 이용하여 대상자의 불안, 우울, 자아통제감을 조사하였다. 수집된 자료는 매개효과 분석을 위해 SPSS 27.0 Statistics Program을 이용하여 다중회귀분석을 하였다. 연구 결과 노인의 불안과 우울과의 관계에서 자아통제감은 부분적으로 매개하는 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 지역사회 거주 노인의 자기통제감이 우울에 대한 불안의 부정적 영향을 감소시키는 역할을 할 수 있음을 시사하므로, 노년기 우울 예방 및 관리를 위한 중재에서 자아통제감을 강화하는 방법을 중요하게 다룰 필요성을 제언하였다.
