This study focused on Daegu city's police policy and suggested the it's direction to the autonomous police system. The proposed policy direction in this study basically focuses on establishing citizen-centered police governance. Four major police policy directions are suggested by combining strategies for the three main areas of autonomous police affairs: life safety, women and youth, and traffic. These four major policies are as follow: realization of a safe city for residents, strengthening the protection of the disaster vulnerable, strengthening communication and cooperation between institutions to improve perceived safety, and the establishment of a police system that combines new technologies. However, this study has limitations in generalizing the research results due to its focus on specific cities. Follow-up studies in the future could contribute to the stable establishment of the autonomous police system and further development of the overall system.

본 연구는 자치경찰제 시행 2년이 지났음에도 불구하고 안정적으로 뿌리내리지 못하고 있다는 문제 의식 하에 자치경찰 치안정책 방향을 제안하였다. 대구시를 대상으로 치안환경과 치안수요를 분석하여 현실적인 내용을 담고자 하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 시민중심의 치안거버넌스 구축을 핵심 방향으로 제시 하였다. 구체적으로 자치경찰의 세 가지 주요사무인 생활안전, 여성 ․청소년, 교통 분야별 전략을 종합하 여 4대 치안정책 방향을 도출하였다. 4대 치안정책은 주민참여형 안전도시 실현, 재난취약계층 보호 강화, 체감안전도 향상을 위한 기관간 소통과 협력 강화, 신기술 접목의 치안시스템 구축이며, 실제 지역의 치안환경과 수요를 반영하였다는 점에서 의미가 있다. 그러나 본 연구는 특정 도시만을 대상으로 연구를 수행하여 연구 결과를 일반화하기에는 한계가 존재한다. 향후 연구 대상의 범위를 전국으로 넓혀 후속연구가 이루어진다면 제도 발전에 이바지할 수 있을 것이다.
