In the 4IR era, Korean family SMEs have been able to reduce costs and risks in building global networks due to the digital transformation. SMEs need to leverage technology to compete in overseas markets. Previous research has shown that family businesses differ in market strategy based on ownership concentration. This study aims to compare and analyze the relationship between ownership concentration and internationalization of small and medium-sized family businesses with that of non-family businesses, seeking ways for their successful international expansion. The data for analysis was extracted from TS2000 and KIS-Value, from 2016 to 2019, focusing on manufacturing SMEs. The empirical data used consisted of a total of 393 cases, and the ownership concentration was calculated using the HIndexndex method. The results showed that the ownership concentration of small and medium-sized family businesses has a negative impact on internationalization, and the they have a nonlinear relationship. Furthermore, family SMEs with low ownership concentration had a higher level of FSTS than non-family SMEs.

국내 중소 가족기업은 4IR 시대 디지털 전환에 따라 기업 간 글로벌 네트워크를 구축하고 해외고객에 접근하는 데 비용과 위험을 절감할 수 있게 되었다. 중소 가족기업은 해외시장에서 재벌 가족기업 및 타국가기업과의 경쟁에 서 살아남기 위해서 기술을 발판 삼아 국제화에 도전할 필요성이 있다. 가족기업은 기존 연구에서 소유집중도에 따 라 시장 전략에 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이에 본 연구는 중소 가족기업 소유집중도와 국제화 간 관계를 일반 기업과 비교 분석하여 이들의 성공적 국제화 진출 방안을 모색하고자 한다. 분석 자료는 TS2000, KIS-Value로부터 2016년부터 2019년의 4개년 제조 중소기업 데이터를 추출하였다. 실증 분석에 활용된 자료는 총 393개이며, 소유집중도는 HIndexndex 방식으로 산출하였다. 분석 결과, 중소 가족기업 소유집중도는 국제화에 부(-)의 영향을 미치며 두 변수는 비선형 관계를 띤다. 또한, 중소 가족기업 소유집중도가 낮은 경우 중소 일반기업보다 국제화 수준이 높았다.
