This study investigates the formation process and causes of the Korean professional golf industry, centered on the KLPGA, through comparative analysis with domestic and foreign professional golf tours. For this purpose, the primary data related to the men's and women's professional golf tour competitions and prize money in Korea and the United States from 1999 to 2023 were reprocessed for the purpose of this study, and the reliability of the data was increased by matching the year and unit of the competition. Additionally, the validity of the research data was improved through expert verification. The research results are as follows. First, the number of KLPGA competitions has continued to grow since 1999, but it is analyzed that the KPGA is competitive in terms of competition prize money and average prize money. Second, considering the market gap between genders in the U.S. professional golf market, the market gap in Korea's men's and women's golf market is not large, so it is analyzed that there is ample potential for KPGA's growth in the future. This study will be meaningful in that it examines the topography of the professional golf market from a macroscopic perspective and examines the marketability of the domestic professional golf industry through comparison with overseas professional golf markets. The growth of the domestic professional golf market is in a situation with direct or indirect relationship with overseas professional golf, and this research provides a direction to establish strategic relationships with overseas professional golf markets and grow into a professional sport with a sustainable domestic market.

본 연구는 KLPGA 중심의 한국 프로골프 산업의 형성 과정 및 원인을 국내 및 해외 프로골프 투어와의 비교분석을 통해 규명하는 연구이다. 이를 위해 1999-2023년까지의 한국과 미국의 남녀 프로골프 투어 대회와 상금 관련 1차 자료를 연구 목적에 맞게 재가공하는 과정을 거쳤으며, 대회 연도 및 단위를 일치시켜 자료의 신뢰성을 높였다. 또한 전문가 검증 을 통해 데이터를 선별하는 방향으로 연구 자료의 타당성을 향상시켰다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 1999년 이후 KLPGA의 대회수는 지속적인 성장이 이루어졌으나 대회 상금 및 평균 상금의 측면에서는 KPGA가 경쟁력을 보유한 것으 로 분석된다. 둘째, 미국 프로골프 시장에서의 성별간 시장 격차를 고려할 때 한국의 남녀 골프시장은 시장격차가 크지 않은 상황으로 향후 KPGA의 성장 가능성은 충분히 있는 것으로 분석된다. 본 연구는 거시적인 관점에서 프로골프 시장의 지형에 대해 살펴보고 국내 프로골프 산업의 시장성에 대해 해외 프로골프 시장과의 비교를 통해 살펴보았다는 점에서 의의가 있을 것이다. 국내 프로골프 시장의 성장이 해외 프로골프와 직간접적인 관계를 맺고 있는 상황에서 해당 연구를 통해 해외 프로골프 시장과의 전략적인 관계 수립 및 지속가능한 내수시장을 갖춘 프로스포츠로 성장할 수 있는 방향성 제시 및 정책수립에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
