The quality of jobs for young people is still low despite the improvement of the youth unemployment rate, due to the ‘preference for career’ of companies. One way to address this issue is through overseas internship programs. Previous studies have shown that overseas internships can improve major and international work capabilities, foreign language skills, and adaptability to other cultures while performing major tasks in foreign companies with different cultures and languages. However, the improvement of foreign language skills and adaptability to other cultures may vary depending on the job, the period of internships, and individual efforts. Satisfaction with overseas internships was mostly high, but this result was found to be not strongly linked to the motivation for overseas employment. In addition, mental and emotional preparation and management were found to be necessary for overseas internships

청년실업률이 개선되었음에도 확장실업률을 고려하면 실질 실업률은 여전히 높고, 기업 들의 ‘경력직 선호’로 인해 청년들의 일자리의 질도 낮은 상황이다. 청년 실업률 해소를 위한 방법 중 하나가 해외인턴십 프로그램이다. 기존 연구들에서 해외인턴십은 문화와 언어가 다른 외국 기업에서 전공 업무를 수행하면서 전공 및 국제 업무역량을 증진시키고, 외국어 능력을 향상시키고 타문화 적응력을 강화할 수 있는 것으로 분석하였다. S대학교 미국 인턴십 참가자들을 대상으로 진행된 질적연구에서도 비슷한 결과가 나왔다. 질적연 구를 통해 구체적인 내용을 살펴보면 외국어 능력과 타문화 적응력 향상은 직무에 따라, 인턴십 기간에 따라, 개인의 노력에 따라 달라질 수 있다. 해외인턴십에 대한 만족도는 대부분 높게 나타났으나 이 결과가 해외취업 동기로 강하게 연결되지는 않는 것으로 나타 났다. 아울러 해외인턴십에서 정신적, 감정적 준비 및 관리가 필요하다는 시사점을 도출하 였다.
