In a world that is becoming increasingly pluralistic with postmodern ideas, true conversion is hard to find in the Korean church. As secularism, materialism, and prosperity become more prevalent, it is difficult to hear conversion sermons in the church, and the spiritual decline is deepening. Regardless of the situation, in order for the Korean church to be restored, the work of conversion must continue to take place without stopping in the pastoral field. Of course, this work of conversion is a spiritual phenomenon that is led by the Holy Spirit. However, it is clear that conversion takes place through the medium of the Word (truth). Therefore, to address this issue, we will look to Jonathan Edwards, who lived through a powerful revival and experienced various conversion phenomena. As Edwards looked at his own conversion and the collective conversions he experienced in his ministry, he found that the catalyst for true conversion was preaching. In sum, while recognizing that conversion is the sovereign work of the Holy Spirit, he became convinced that the preaching of conversion from the pulpit plays a significant role in bringing about true conversion. This is the focus of this paper. By analyzing Edwards's conversion sermons, I will categorize his sermons into three preaching styles, which I believe are timeless and still serve as catalysts for true conversion today, and apply them to the pulpits of the Korean church.

포스트모더니즘 사상으로 다원화 되어가고 있는 세태 속에서 한국교회 안에는 참된 회심 을 좀처럼 찾아보기가 힘들다. 세속주의, 물질주의, 번영주의가 만연해 가면서 교회 안에서는 회 심 설교를 들어보기 어렵고, 그에 따른 영적 쇠퇴는 심화하여 가고 있다. 이 문제를 어떻게 풀어 가야 할까? 상황이 어떠하든지 간에 한국교회가 회복되기 위해서는 목회 현장에서 회심의 역사 가 멈추지 않고, 계속 일어나야 한다. 물론 이 회심의 역사는 성령이 주도적으로 일으키시는 영 적 현상이다. 인간이 주도적으로 할 수 있는 일은 아니다. 그럼에도 회심은 말씀(진리)이라는 매 개체를 통해서 분명히 이루어진다. 즉 여기에서 설교의 중요성이 강조된다. 따라서 이 같은 문제 를 해결하기 위해 강력한 부흥의 시대를 살았고, 다양한 회심 현상을 경험한 Jonathan Edwards 와 그의 설교로부터 그 답을 찾아보고자 한다. Edwards는 자신이 경험한 회심과 목회 현장에서 경험한 집단적인 회심의 현상을 바라보면서, 참된 회심의 촉매 역할을 했던 것이 바로 설교에 있 다는 사실을 발견했다. 정리하면 회심은 성령님의 주권적인 역사임을 인정하면서 더불어 강단에 서 선포하는 설교가 참된 회심을 이끄는데, 중요한 역할을 한다는 점에 확신을 갖게 된 것이다. 따라서 본 논문은 이 부분에 초점을 두어 살펴보았다. 방법은 Edwards가 선포한 회심 설교를 분석하여, 그가 회심 설교에 어떤 방식을 사용하였는지 세 가지로 분류해 보았다. 그리고 이 세 가지 설교 방식을 활용한 설교가 시대를 뛰어넘어 오늘날에도 참된 회심을 이끄는 촉매 역할을 한다고 여기고, 한국교회 강단에 적용해 보고자 한다.
