Chunam Park In-ho(1855-1940), the fourth generation leader of Donghak Cheondogyo, was a representative national activist and enlightenment thinker who inherited the traditions of Choi Je-woo, Choi Si-hyeong, and Son Byeong-hee, but was also active in the new culture movement with an open attitude. He showed extraordinary historical awareness by practicing Inaecheon, the fundamental idea of Donghak Cheondogyo, as a national, cultural, and enlightenment movement. This study sought to reveal Chunam Park In-ho’s Donghak Thought and historical awareness through his life and spiritual culture movement. The content of the study was to summarize his life and activities and present the characteristics of educational and cultural ideas, such as the norm of “merit and virtue” (公德心) and the idea of education as “gonggi” (公器). The result of the study was that his Donghak thought and historical awareness should be newly evaluated as a Korean spiritual culture that can contribute to communicating with various cultures and spreading the spirit of community and coexistence while maintaining Korean self-esteem even in today’s trend of globalization.

춘암 박인호(1855-1940)는 동학 천도교의 제4세 대도주로 최제우, 최시형 그리고 손병희의 전통을 계승하면서도 개방적인 태도로 신문화운동에도 적극적이었던 대표적인 민족운동가이며 계몽사상가였다. 그는 동학 천도교의 근본 사상인 인내천을 민족, 문화, 계몽 운동으로 실천함으로써 남다른 역사인식을 보여주었다. 본 연구는 춘암 박인호의 동학사상과 역사인식을 그의 삶과 정신문화운동에서 밝혀보고자 하였다. 연구 내용으로는 그의 삶과 행적을 정리하고 “공덕심”(公德心)의 규범과 “공기”(公器)로서의 교육 이념 등 교육문화사상의 특징을 분석하는 것이었다. 연구 결과는 그의 동학사상과 역사인식은 오늘날 세계화라는 시대적 흐름 속에서 한국의 자존감을 유지하면서 다양한 문화와 소통하고, 공동체 의식과 상생 정신을 확산시키는 데 기여할 수 있는 한국의 정신문화로 새롭게 평가되어야 한다는 것이었다.
