Hoejae Park Gwang-ok was a scholar in the early Joseon Dynasty. When the Japanese invasions of Korea broke out, he actively engaged in volunteer activities, but passed away in the early stages of the war. He did not stand out in politics or engage in much academic activity, nor did he produce many influential scholars among his disciples, so he was considered a general writer and scholar during the Joseon Dynasty. Rather than his image, he is known as a volunteer army activist. This kind of image interferes with accurately identifying the actual historical figure named Park Gwang-ok. Although Park Gwang-ok engaged in righteous army activities during the last year or two of his life, he was a typical scholar, bureaucrat, and writer of the Joseon Dynasty. As a historical figure, his image has been formed only in terms of his volunteer army activities, mainly due to the context of Joseon history with the Japanese Invasion of Korea, but now we are trying to remove the image of him as a volunteer army activist and understand him as a writer. Since he was a writer and intellectual, to understand him, the collection of works he produced must be used as the primary literary text. His collection of works is not very abundant, and the overwhelming majority of the sentences included are poems. What is unique about his poetry is that there are many lament poems (about 50 pieces) out of a total of 300, and among them, many lament poems were requested by others. His lament poems include poems commemorating parents and relatives, poems commemorating the death of famous people and friends with whom one was associated, and poems written on behalf of others at the request of others. The fact that there are many lament poems indicates the breadth of his human interactions, and the fact that there are many lament poems that were requested by others also means that he played a leading role in ritual culture as a member of the Jaeji Sajok(在地士族) or regional scholar family. And his condolatory poem(悼亡詩) and aesthetics of commemoration unfold his own colorful and unique narrative of mourning within the framework of idiomatic and clichéd poetic language and standardized expressions.
