This study attempted to investigate and analyze the actual status of hyangwoohoe activities and community consciousness for Honam businessmen living in the Philippines. To this end, a survey was conducted from July to September 2019, and a total of 97 answer sheets were used for analysis. The results of the study are as follows. First, it was confirmed that the Honam hyangwoohoe is the social organization in which Honam businessmen living in the Philippines participate the most. They were satisfied with the activities of Honam hyangwoohoe, and the sustainability of Honam hyangwoohoe was also highly evaluated. Third, the roots of Honam spirit and Honam symbol turned out to be the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement. Fourth, they are actively participating in the World Honam People's Day celebration and consider visiting their hometown important. Fifth, the sense of community was classified into pure function, dysfunction, unity, and belonging, and Honam businessmen in the Philippines responded positively to pure function, unity, and belonging, while negatively responding to dysfunction, confirming that they are a healthy community. Sixth, as a result of regression analysis on satisfaction with Honam Hyangwoohoe activities, Honam Hyangwoohoe sustainability, and willingness to participate in the Honam Hansang Convention, pure function, unity, and belonging had a positive (+) effect, and dysfunction had a negative (-) effect. These findings provide practical implications and theoretical basis.

이 연구는 필리핀 거주 호남한상인을 대상으로 호남향우회 활동 실태와 공동체 의식을 조사․분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 2019년 7월부터 9월까지 설문조사를 실시하여 총 97부를 분석에 활용하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 필리핀 호남한상인이 가장 많이 참여하는 사회단체는 호남향우회로 확인됐다. 둘째, 호 남향우회 활동에 만족하고 있었으며, 호남향우회의 지속 가능성도 높게 평가하였다. 셋째, 호남 정신의 뿌리와 호남 상징은 5·18광주민주화운동으로 밝혀졌다. 넷째, ‘세계호남인의 날’ 기념대회에 적극 참여하고 있고, 고향 방문을 중요하게 생각하고 있다. 다섯째, 공동체의식은 순기능, 역기능, 일체감, 소속감으로 분류 되었고, 필리핀 호남한상인들은 순기능, 일체감, 소속감에는 긍정적으로 응답한 반면, 역기능에는 부정적으로 답함으로써 건강한 공동체임이 확인되었다. 여섯 째, 호남향우회활동만족도, 호남향우회지속가능성, 호남한상대회참여의향에 대 한 회귀분석 결과 순기능, 일체감, 소속감은 정(+)의 영향을 미쳤고, 역기능은 부(-)의 영향을 미쳤다. 이러한 연구결과는 실무적인 시사점과 이론적인 기초를 제 공하고 있다.
