This study aims to propose the importance of senior welfare mission ministry in the church at a time of conversion into the COVID-19 endemic and upcoming entry into a super-aging society. For this purpose, the study examined discourses around the emergence and aging of the new senior generation as potential human resources in the church and the aging issues from the perspective of social welfare, thus identifying the possibilities and opportunities of older adult ministry in the Korean church and proposing the meanings and methods of senior welfare mission as a new alternative. The findings were as follows: first, the appearance of the new senior generation, who reflects the characteristics of different levels from the older adult, raises a need for changes to the older adult ministry of the church; second, changes to active and healthy aging discourses propose the importance of active and independent older adult ministry; third, such changes propose ways to create an environment friendly to the older adult and promote the active participation of the church in it at the community level; fourth, the importance of older adult ministry, which is to discover the possibilities and values of old age in the image of God, becomes prominent amid the difficulty and crisis of older adult ministry in the Korean church; and finally, the church is asked to practice senior welfare mission including the efforts to advocate and overcome social issues and prejudices against the older adult, develop social movements, and make institutional improvements while providing a chance for spiritual salvation for the older adult and social welfare service in the Christian perspective. Based on the result of research, practical recommendations for senior welfare missions include ‘Creating a new senior culture that bestows senior roles and values’, ‘Exploring the potential changes in senior ministry that reflect the desire of the new senior generation’, ‘Strategies for specialization and segmentation of older adult ministry’, ‘the needs of experts in welfare missions’, and ‘Discussions regarding the church's responsibilities and roles in older adult ministry’. The present study will be followed by more advance follow-up studies to develop practical cases and expertise for senior welfare mission in Korean Churches.

본 연구는 코로나 엔데믹으로의 전환과 초고령사회를 앞둔 현 시점에서 교회의 시 니어 복지선교 사역의 중요성을 제안한다. 이를 위하여 교회의 잠재적 인적자원인 뉴 시니어 세대의 출현과 노화를 둘러싼 담론, 에이징(Aging) 이슈에 대한 사회복지적 고찰을 통해 한국교회의 노인사역의 가능성과 기회를 도출하고 새로운 대안으로서 시 니어 복지선교의 의미와 대안을 제안하였다. 본 연구결과를 제시하면 첫째, 뉴시니어 세대의 등장은 기존 노인과는 다른 차원의 특징을 반영한 교회의 노인사역에 변화가 필요하다는 점이다. 둘째, 활동적 노화, 건강한 노화 담론으로의 변화는 주체적이고 적극적인 노인사역의 중요성을 제시하고 있다. 셋째, 지역사회 차원에서 고령친화적 환경을 구축하고 교회가 적극적으로 동참하는 방안이 제기된다. 넷째, 한국교회의 노 인사역의 어려움과 위기 속에서 하나님의 형상으로 지음 받은 노년의 가능성과 가치 를 발견하는 노인사역의 중요성이 나타났다. 다섯째, 교회가 노인을 위한 영적 구원의 기회를 제공하고 기독교적 안목으로 사회복지서비스를 제공함과 동시에 노인을 둘러 싼 사회문제와 편견을 극복하기 위한 옹호, 사회운동, 제도 개선의 노력이 포함된 시 니어 복지선교로의 실천이 요구된다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 시니어 복지선교를 위한 실천적인 제언으로 ‘시니어 역할과 가치를 부여한 신노년문화 창출’, ‘뉴시니어 세대의 욕구를 반영한 노인사역의 변화 가능성’, ‘노인사역의 전문화, 세분화 전략’, ‘복 지선교 전문가 도입’, ‘교회의 노인사역 책임과 역할’에 관한 논의와 대안을 제시하였 다. 본 연구를 통해 한국교회의 시니어 복지선교를 위한 실제적인 사례와 전문성 함 양을 위한 더욱 발전적인 후속연구들을 기대한다.
