This study analyzed the contents of the award-winning works in the field of regional coverage, which can be said to be awards for special reports by local broadcasters, among the winning works of the 'Broadcast Journalist of the Month'. As a result of the analysis, KBS regional bureaus and MBC regional affiliates received relatively more awards. This is analyzed to be because these broadcasting companies are building a coverage system centered on local access points. The scoop topics appeared in the order of “politics/administration,” “medical/culture/environment,” and “society in general.” Among the types of scoops, there are more 'discovery scoops' than 'time scoops', and the importance of time scoops, which are reported before other media outlets, was also maintained. In the reporting technique, the traditional technique that emphasized on-the-spot reporting prevailed, and the utilization of the computer-based reporting method was not so great. As a result of examining the characteristics of the scoop, reports dealing with local and national issues accounted for a large portion of the publicity of the topic, and reports that dealt with the resolution of the suspicion of the issue were often awarded for the intensity of the disclosure. In the analysis of coverage originality, it was found that while there are many award-winning works that start with press releases or reports, the number of news coverage and reporting by reporters with their own ideas is also increasing. In the in-depth interview conducted along with the content analysis, local journalists' awareness of the scoop was confirmed. Journalists saw that the concept of a scoop centered on speed was changing, and recognized that a scoop that provided readers with an interpretation of an issue and various perspectives was more meaningful than reporting faster than others. Based on these results, this study discussed the meaning and implications of the special reporter image in the field of journalism.

본 연구는 <이달의 방송기자상> 수상작 중 지역 방송사의 우수한 취재보도에 대한 시상이라고 할 수 있는 ‘지역 취재보도 부문’ 수상작을 특종 속성 차원에서 살펴보았다. 분석 결과 전체적으로 호남권과 강원권, 영남권에서 취재보도 부문 수상작의 강세를 보 여주었다. 방송국 별로 분석한 결과 KBS 지역국과 지역 민방계열에서 수상작이 상대 적으로 많았다. 지역별로 수상작 분석결과 강원권과 호남권에서는 지역 민방계열이, 영 남권과 충청권에서는 MBC 계열사의 수상작이 우세하였고 제주권의 경우 KBS 지역국 에서만 수상작을 냈다. 수상작 주제는 ‘정치･행정’ 분야가 가장 많았고 다음으로 ‘경제･ 환경’, ‘사회일반’ 순으로 나타났으나 상대적으로 ‘복지’, ‘인권’, ‘문화’, ‘역사’, ‘국제’ 분야의 수상작은 미미하였다. 특종의 종류는 ‘시간 특종’보다는 ‘발굴 특종’이 많았다. 취재기법에서는 현장 취재를 중시하는 전통적 기법이 우세하였고, 컴퓨터 활용 취재 방 법의 활용도는 높지 않았다. 특종의 속성을 살펴본 결과, 주제 공공성에서는 지역 이슈 를 심층적으로 천착하는 보도에서 많은 수상작이 나왔고, 보도 폭로성의 강도는 단순 의혹제기에만 머물지 않고 사안의 의혹을 해소하는 심층보도가 상을 많이 받았다. 취재 독자성 분석에서는 내부제보를 출발점으로 하는 수상작이 가장 많았고, 기자가 독자적 으로 아이디어를 내어 취재･보도한 수상작도 증가하는 추세로 나타났다. 내용분석과 함 께 실시한 심층 인터뷰에서는 지역 기자들의 특종에 대한 인식을 재확인하였다. 기자들 은 속보 중심의 특종 개념이 변화하고 있다고 보았고, 이슈에 대한 해석과 다양한 시각을 독자들에게 제공하는 특종이 더 큰 의미가 있다고 인식하고 있었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구에서는 저널리즘 영역에서 취재보도 수상작이 가지고 있는 특종의 의 의와 향후 언론계에 제시하는 시사점을 논의하였다.
