This study explores the anthropological implications of Habermas's 'weak' naturalism. While Habermas's theory has been actively researched in social, moral, legal and political philosophy, it has received limited attention from the perspective of philosophical anthropology. To fill this gap, it is necessary to examine Habermas's anthropological view as articulated in his works on theoretical p hi losophy. F i rst, I e lucidate K anti an p ragmatist m oti vations behind weak naturali sm as well as i ts concepti on of human cognition as a learni ng p rocess, are e lucidated. I t hen fi gure o ut the t enet of w eak naturalism in contrast to strong naturalism and analyze the key theses that make up weak naturalism: ontological monism, epistemic dualism, and continuity thesis. These come together to form an anthropological view that understands humans as part of the natural world while recognizing the independence of human practice. Finally, I identify the implications of such an anthropological claim. Weak naturalism fulfills the task of defense that Kant assigned to philosophy: it sides with common sense about how to understand human beings against strong naturalism.

본 연구는 하버마스의 ‘약한’ 자연주의가 주는 인간학적 함의를 탐구한다. 하버마스의 이 론은 사회철학, 도덕철학, 법･정치철학에서는 활발한 연구 주제가 되었으나, 철학적 인간학 의 관점에서는 그만한 주목을 받지 않았다. 이러한 공백을 해소하려면 하버마스가 자신의 이론철학 저술에서 정교화한 인간 이해를 살펴보아야 한다. 우선 약한 자연주의의 배경이 되는 칸트적 실용주의의 동기를 밝히고, 인간의 인식 과정을 일종의 학습 과정으로 파악하 는 칸트적 실용주의의 구상을 설명한다. 이어서 강한 자연주의와 대비하여 약한 자연주의의 취지를 파악하고, 약한 자연주의를 구성하는 핵심 논제를 분석한다. 존재론적 일원론, 인식 적 이원론, 연속성 논제가 맞물려 인간을 자연 세계의 일부로 이해하면서도 인간 실천의 독 립성을 인정하는 인간학 이론이 나온다. 마지막으로 약한 자연주의적 인간학의 함의를 규명 한다. 약한 자연주의는 강한 자연주의에 대항하여 평범한 사람의 인간 이해를 보호하는 편 에 선다는 점에서 칸트가 철학에 부여한 변호의 임무를 수행한다.
