This paper argues that a phenomenological understanding of disease is helpful in understanding disease. To this end, this paper critically examines the existing understanding of the disease, which is naturalism and normativism, and analyzes how the significance of the phenomenological understanding of the disease can be established. Such an analysis avoids an attitude of understanding the disease mechanically or numerically and helps to understand the disease holistically from a more humane point of view. In this respect, this article suggests that phenomenology as a practical science provides a useful understanding of diseases that will be helpful in the medical field.

이 논문은 질병에 대한 현상학적 이해가 질병을 이해하는 데에 도움이 된다는 사실을 논증한다. 이를 위해 논문은 자연주의와 규범주의라는 기존의 질병 이해를 비판적으로 검 토한 후 현상학적 질병 이해의 의의가 어떻게 수립될 수 있는지를 분석한다. 이와 같은 분 석은 기계적, 수리적으로 질병을 이해하는 태도를 지양하고, 보다 인간적 관점에서 총체적 으로 질병을 이해하도록 돕는다. 그런 점에서 논문은 실천학으로서 현상학이 의료 영역에 도움이 될 질병 이해를 실용적으로 제시한다는 사실을 제언한다.
