Recently, the new Hanbok has transformed into a cultural trend among the younger generation, including K-pop stars, offering a blend of modern design and traditional elements that makes it suitable for everyday wear. Traditional Hanbok has changed under the influence of the West since the modern times, and various changes in Hanbok can be understood through the special modernization of Korea by western forces; Japanese colonial rule and subordination to US culture. Therefore, this study analyzed modern and contemporary Hanbok culture by looking into the process of the modernization process of Korea through the intercultural relation theory and cultural theory of non-western colonial countries. Korea accepted western culture through Japan and had special modernization which voluntarily copied and accepted western culture under the influence of the United States. The aspects of post coloniality within the post modernity, in which it sought its own identity with the awareness of the subject of the modern society, could be identified recently in Korea that joined a globalization phenomenon. However, the current new Hanbok pursuits diversity and modernity for the Millennials and Gen Z, centered more on the digital network, rather than resistance and criticism. New Hanbok emphasizes present aspects as well as diversities and creates new K-Culture distanced from traditional culture. Therefore, this study has significance in that it examined the unique modernization of Korean Hanbok and built the foundation of modern and contemporary Hanbok research in accordance with cultural theory.

최근 신한복은 전통한복에 현대적인 디자인과 신소재를 결합하여 일상생활에서 입을 수 있는 옷으로 K-pop 스타들을 비롯해 젊은 층의 문화로 자리 잡고 있다. 한복은 근대 이후 서구세력의 외압, 일본의 식민지, 미국의 문화 종속이라는 한국의 특수한 근･현대화를 통해 다양하게 변화한 양상을 보인다. 이에 본 연구는 문화 간 충돌을 통한 문화의 변화를 다루는 문화 간 관계이론과 비 서구 식민지 국가의 문화이론을 통해 한국의 근･현대화 과정을 살펴보고 근･현대 한복 문화를 분석하였다. 한국은 일본에 의해 서구 문화를 접촉 하였으며, 미국의 영향 아래 자발적으로 서구 문화를 모방하고 수용한 특수한 근대화를 보냈다. 한국은 전지 구화 현상에 합류하면서 근대사회의 주체를 자각하고 정체성을 찾는 포스트 모더니티 속 포스트 콜로니얼리 티의 모습을 보였다. 그러나 최근 신한복은 MZ세대 중심의 디지털 네트워크 속에서 저항과 비판보다는 전통 문화와 한복에 대해 객관적인 거리를 두고 다양성과 현대성을 추구하는 모습으로 포스트 콜로니얼리티보다 는 현재성과 글로벌리티를 강조하며 새로운 K-culture를 창조해 나가는 것을 알 수 있다. 본 연구를 통해 근･ 현대 문화이론을 바탕으로 한 한복 연구의 학문적인 토대를 마련하고 한복을 비롯한 한국문화의 방향성을 모색하는데 의의가 있다고 사료된다.
