This study aimed to analyze the meaning of eating in 「Your Cold Hand」 and 「The Vegetarian」 in the novels 'Han Gang' from the perspective of psychological hunger. In the novel, L in 「Your Cold Hand」 and Yeong-hye in 「The Vegetarian」 were analyzed as subjects with psychological problems related to eating. In order to understand a person, it is necessary to understand how the surrounding people and family relationship patterns affect that person, so I looked at the main characters and family relationships. Based on the understanding of the characters, the meaning of L's binge eating disorder and bulimia nervosa, and Yeong-hye's dissociation, vegetarianism, psychosis, and anorexia were analyzed in terms of psychological hunger. As a result of the analysis, L in 「Your Cold Hand」 was eating as psychological comfort through gluttony and vomiting to overcome the psychological hunger of maternal love and lack of ego. Yeong-hye in 「The Vegetarian」 was looking for a sense of existence through a desperate struggle from vegetarianism to anorexia due to psychological hunger not being acknowledged for her existence. For Yeong-hye, the meaning of eating was a tool for acknowledging her existence. Suggestions for the path to psychological fullness in a way other than pathological comfort were also suggested.

본 연구는 ‘한강’ 소설 중 「그대의 차가운 손」과 「채식주의자」에 나타난 섭식의 의미를 심리적 허기의 관점에서 분석하고자 하였다. 소설 속에서 섭식과 관 련한 심리적 문제를 가진 인물인 「그대의 차가운 손」의 L과 「채식주의자」의 영혜를 대상으로 분석하였다. 한 사람을 이해하기 위해서는 그 사람을 둘러싼 주변 사람들과 가족관계 패턴이 어떤 영향을 미치는지에 대한 이해가 선행되어야 하므로, 주요 인물과 가족관계에 대해서 살펴보았다. 인물에 대한 이해를 바탕으로 L이 보이는 폭식장애와 신경성 폭식증, 영혜가 보이는 해리, 채식, 정신증, 거식을 심리적 허기의 관점에서 섭식의 의미를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 「그대의 차가운 손」의 L은 모성애와 자아의 결핍이라는 심리적 허기를 폭식과 구토를 통한 심리적 위안으로 섭식을 하고 있었다. 「채식주의자」의 영혜는 자기 존재에 대한 인정 을 받지 못한 심리적 허기로 인해 채식에서 거식에 이르는 처절한 투쟁을 통해 존재감을 찾고 있었다. 영혜에게 섭식의 의미는 자기 존재의 인정에 대한 도구였다. 병리적인 위안이 아닌 방법으로 심리적인 충만함에 이르는 길에 대한 제언도 제시하였다.
