NSince the promulgation of Hunminjeongeum, many Hangul translations of classics were published, including a Hangul anthology of Du Fu, Tang’s most celebrated poet, published in 25 chapters and 17 volumes by a royal decree. However, there are no records of publication of translation of Li Bai’s work. The manuscript copy of Ibaekchileon which Professor Unpyo Hong fortuitously purchased from an old books collector in Jeonju in 1978 consists of three parts: Ibaekchileon, Yuhyang, and Ibaekgopung. The copy contains Hangul translations of 148 poems, including 76 by Li Bai, as well as annotations. The fact that only a manuscript copy remains suggests that the translations were made not as a result of a royal decree but merely as a personal endeavor. A broad search of old records found the annals of Ocheon Han Baekyu(鰲川 韓伯愈, 1675-1742), which indicated that he translated Dangeum, an anthology of notable Tang poetry, into Hangul at age 56 and Ibaekchileon into Hangul at age 57. Goheonnae, Taein, where Han was born, is located in Jeongup-si in Jeollabuk-do, where the aforementioned old books collector first purchased the manuscript copy of Ibaekchileon. Moreover, Han was the teacher of the graphonomist Sin Gyeongjun(申景濬), who authored Unhae Hunminjeongeum, a phonological study of Hunminjeongeum. The manuscript copy of Ibaekchileon contains lessons from Han to Sin, which confirms that Han was the author of the Hangul translation of Ibaekchileon.

『훈민정음』 이 반포된 뒤에 다양한 고전의 언해본이 간행되면서 중국의 대표적인 시인 杜甫의 시집이 왕명에 의해 25권 17책으로 언해 간행되었다. 그러나 李白 시 언해는 간행된 기록이 없었다. 홍윤표 교수가 1978년 전주의 한 고문헌 수집상에게서 우연히 구입하여 소장하였던 필사본 『李白七言』 은 ‘李白七言’ ‘遺響’ ‘李白古風’의 3부분으로 구성되어 있으며, 이백의 시 76수를 포함하여 총 148수가 한글로 번역되고 주석까지 실려 있다. 필사본으로만 전해 진 것을 보면 왕명에 의해 언해한 것이 아니라 한 개인이 언해한 것임을 짐작할 수 있다. 다양한 고문헌을 검색한 결과, 鰲川 韓伯愈(1675-1742)의 연보에서 56세에 『唐音』 을 언해하고, 57세에 『李白七言』 을 언해하였다는 사실이 밝혀졌다. 그의 출생지인 泰仁 古縣 內는 전주의 고문헌 수집상이 필사본 『이백칠언』 을 처음 구입한 井邑 지역이며, 그는 『韻解 訓民正音』 을 지은 문자학자 申景濬의 스승이기도 하다. 그가 신경준에게 가르친 내용이 이 언해본에 그대로 실려 있으므로, 한백유가 『李白七言』 언해의 저자라는 사실이 확인된다.
