This study is on the Gwangju Student Independence Movement and Diaspora. Studies on the Gwangju Student Independence Movement are mostly on its progress in Gwangju, Jeolla-do from November 1929 to March 1930, and studies on the process of spreading to Seoul and Pyongyang, The Gwangju Student Independence Movement is spreading to various parts of the world, and research on the solidarity phenomenon that supports and sponsors it is a recent thing. This study is about the support of the Gwangju Student Independence Movement by Korean diaspora in Cuba. The Research data that Cuba supported the Gwangju Student Independence Movement was revealed for the first time through KBS News on August 15, 2016. This study was structured as follows. First, it describes the process by which the Gwangju Student Independence Movement, which started in Gwangju, spread nationwide and gained support even in Cuba. Second, the current status of support meetings and special donations for the Gwangju Student Independence Movement in Matanzas and Cardenas of the Cuban Regional Council of the Korean National Association. Third, Chu Mi-yeop, who was born in 1923, was a kindergarten student (7 years old) at Matanzas Minseong Korean School in Cuba in 1930, the youngest participant in the Gwangju Student Independence Movement, and the only survivor. Fourth, I will analyze the status of those who have been awarded medals by the Korean government in Cuba for their activities for Korean independence. Also, I will analyze those who did not receive medals in Cuba.

이 연구는 광주학생독립운동에 관한 연구이자, 디아스포라(Diaspora)에 관한 연구이다. 광주학생독립운동에 관한 연구는 1929년 11월부터 1930년 3월까지 전라도 광주에서 진행 과정에 관한 연구와 전남을 비롯해 서울과 평양 등으로 확 산하는 과정에 관한 연구가 대부분이다. 광주학생독립운동이 세계의 여러 지역으로 확산이 되고 이를 지지하고 후원하 는 연대 현상에 관한 연구는 최근의 일이다. 이 연구는 쿠바라는 지구촌 끝에 있는 나라에서 한인 디아스포라들이 광주학생독립운동을 지지하고 후원했다는 연구이 다. 쿠바에서 광주학생독립운동을 지지했다는 자료는 필자가 2016년 8월 15일 KBS 뉴스를 통해 처음으로 밝혔다. 이후 2023년 3월까지 4차례 쿠바 방문을 통 해 쿠바에서 광주학생독립운동 지지에 대한 자료를 발굴하였다. 이 연구는 다음과 같이 구성되었다. 첫째, 광주에서 시작된 광주학생독립운동이 전국으로 확산되고 쿠바까지 알려지지를 얻는 과정에 관해 기술한다. 둘째, 대한 인국민회 쿠바지방회의 마탄자스와 카르데나스에서 광주학생독립운동에 대해 지 지대회와 특별후원금 모금 현황에 관해 기술한다. 셋째, 2023년 3월 쿠바를 방문 하여 1923년생으로 1930년 당시 쿠바 마탄자스 민성국어학교 유치원생(7세)으 로 최연소 광주학생독립운동 참가자이자 특별후원금(10전)을 낸 유일한 생존자인 주미엽 선생(100세)과 가족에 관한 사례를 발표한다. 넷째, 광주학생독립운동 등 의 참여로 쿠바에서 한국 정부의 서훈에 추서된 분들의 현황과 미전수자 및 미서 훈자를 발굴한 자료를 분석한다.
