The purpose of this study is to summarize the concept and nature of ‘history of children’ and to develop a elementary school history syllabus based on ‘history of children’. The most desirable way to describe children in the past is to reconstruct their lives through their voices. Even if we use sources written by adult, we need to draw children as historical actors or find meaning for children from their perspective by engaging with empathic inference. The proposed syllabus for elementary school history based on children's history includes five themes: 1) History that matters to children: birth, 2) Children as historical actors: resistance, 3) Impact on children: move, 4) Meaning of children's public sphere: adaptation, and 5) Meaning of children's private sphere: free, each of which is based on historical facts or topics from different ages. The proposed syllabus includes a discussion of how historical facts, even those that are already well known, should be taught for restoring children's agency.

본 연구의 목적은 ‘어린이의 역사(history of children)’의 개념과 성격을 정리하고, ‘어린이의 역사’를 학습 내용으로 하는 초등학교 역사교수요목의 구성방안을 탐색하는 데 있다. 과거의 어린이를 복원하는 가장 바람직한 모습은 어린이의 목소리로 그들의 삶을 복원하는 것이다. 성인에 의해 기록된 자료를 활용하더라도 공감적 추론을 통해 주체적 행위자로서 어린이를 그리거나 어린이의 관점에서 어린이에게 갖는 의미를 찾아 야 한다. ‘어린이 역사’에 기반한 초등학교 역사교수요목은 1) 어린이에게 중요한 역사: 탄생, 2) 역사적 행위 의 주체로서 어린이: 저항, 3) 어린이에게 미친 영향: 이동, 4) 어린이의 공적 영역의 의미: 적응, 5) 어린이의 사적 영역의 의미: 해방의 5개 주제이며, 각각의 주제는 시대별, 또는 여러 시대에 걸친 역사적 사실이나 토픽 을 내용요소로 한다. 제안된 교수요목에는 기존에 잘 알려진 역사적 사실이라도, 어린이의 주체성 회복이라 는 관점에서 해당 사실을 ‘어떻게 학습해야 하는지’의 논의를 포함한다.
