Architectural Design Strategies for Healthy School Spaces
초록
영어
As an abundant body of studies and evidence base reveals the significant impacts of the indoor environment on occupant health and productivity, the health and well-being in the built environment has emerged as an important concern for those who spend most of their time indoors. School buildings are where school-age children and adolescents spend most of their time, and the physical, psychological and physiological conditions unique to this age group make them more vulnerable to negative environmental factors. In this context, this study aims to develop architectural design strategies for healthy school spaces, focusing on spatial interventions to the physical environment and the lifestyle changes that can be achieved through them. Comprehensive review of the relevant literature was conducted to identify seven health themes focusing on the recurring and converging topics in the discussion of healthy schools, and where spatial interventions can be applied as a valid tool. Using this as a conceptual framework, a spatial methodology of design elements that translated to at least one of the seven health themes was established and presented as a set of architectural design strategies for healthy school spaces.
