This study aims to find how to evangelize the gerontic generation in an aged and post-aged society. Korea is rapidly approaching 'super-aged society.' Therefore, the Korean Church needs to prepare for senior citizens in a changing society. We are able to recognize the generational differences. According to Church Growth scholars and experts, people bring their ethnic people, tribes, tongues, and social classes to faith through the people movement. Furthermore, Win Arn and Charles Arn’s contribution that they deal with the topics of church growth and senior adults by focusing on gerontic generation’s receptivity. Especially, they found three common characteristics of the generation: 1) Senior citizens are experiencing holistic(physical, emotional, relational, spiritual, and so on) changing, 2) Senior citizens have relational needs, 3) Senior citizens want to contribute something for their communities. Win Arn and Charles Arn are convinced that evangelists take into account gerontic generation’s receptivity and characteristics. In this study, I attempt to find ‘the Principle of Receptivity’ through qualitative case study methodology. I chose two cases(Asbury Church and Ahyun Church) that are doing well for Gerontic Evangelism and ministry. In order to practice multiple-case study, I concentrate on within-case and across-case analytic methodologies. Especially, I got five main concepts through across-case analysis: 1) Age is nothing but a number (Calling for senior citizens), 2) Death and the Gospel, 3) The third place, 4) Gerontic mission and evangelism through senior citizens, and 5) Valuable life for the gerontic generation. The Korean Church need to encourage the gerontic generation to do mission and evangelism for our future ministry as the apostolic congregation.

본 연구는 고령화 시대를 지나 초고령화 시대를 앞두고 있는 한국 사회 안에서 실 버 세대를 효과적으로 전도하기 위한 목적으로 연구됐다. 한국교회는 급격한 인구 변 화를 인지하고 어르신 세대를 위한 목회와 전도를 준비해야 한다. 세대에 따라 문화, 정치성향, 경제 수준, 육체적 능력, 정서적 교감, 그리고 욕구 등이 다르다. 교회성장 학자들은 집단운동의 특징을 주로 ‘종족’, ‘계급’, 그리고 ‘씨족’에서 찾지만, 교회성장학 자로서 윈 안(Win Arn)과 찰스 안(Charles Arn)의 공헌은 세대에서 ‘수용성의 원 리’(The principle of receptivity)를 발견했다는 것에 있다. 특히, 윈 안과 찰스 안은 어르신 세대들이 공통적으로 관심을 기울이며 경험하는 삶에 많은 변화, 관계에서 의 미를 찾는 욕구, 그리고 사회에 공헌하기 원하는 소망 등을 주목하며 실버 전도에 관 심을 기울였다. 필자는 교회성장학에서 언급하는 ‘수용성의 원리’를 실증적으로 찾기 위해 사회과학적 연구 중 질적 사례연구를 수행했다. 연구의 신뢰성을 높이기 위해 실버 사역과 전도에 매진하고 있는 애즈베리교회와 아현성결교회를 연구하는 다중사례연구 (multiple-case study)를 실시했고, 각 ‘사례 내 연구’와 사례 간의 공통점과 수용성을 발견하기 위한 ‘사례 간 연구’를 함께 병행했다. 이 ‘사례 간 연구’를 통해서, 실버 전 도를 위한 다음과 같은 다섯 가지 접점들을 발견했다: ⓵ 나이는 숫자에 불과(소명), ⓶ 죽음과 복음, ⓷ 제 3의 공간, ⓸ 실버 선교, 목회 인적자원, 그리고 ⓹ 가치 있는 노년. 이미 초고령화로 접어든 한국교회는 어르신 세대들 돌봄의 대상만으로 여기지 말고 미래 전도와 목회를 위한 사역에 주체로 여기며 미래 선교의 동력으로 동원해야 할 것이다.
