Pachinko, a novel by Min Jin Lee narrates the origin and settlement of Korean diaspora through Korean's history of emigration to Japan during the Japanese colonial period and the Korean-Japanese family's life story over four generations. In this regard, Min Jin Lee has treated Korean-Japanese literature differently. In this novel, Min Jin primarily focused on men themselves overcoming ethnic groups and ideologies, and in this regard, Pachinko is different from the existing Korean-Japanese literature. The text defines relationships between groups and individuals with hatred and discrimination. Certain external factors, namely the Japanese society and governmental systems define the Korean-Japanese people as others and separate them from the Japanese people. On the other hand, Japanese individuals view Korean-Japanese people from a more fundamental aspect rather than men. They separate individuals from outside based on such aspect. Pachinko finds the origin of diaspora from Western elements of Christianity and the Jews. It includes the history of our people which is not limited to classes, nations, or races by integrating it with the Western elements. It obtains literary universality with Korean diaspora. The value and influence of literature on Korean diaspora can be obtained by analyzing Pachinko.

『파친코』는 일제강점기 조선인의 일본 이주 역사와 4대에 걸친 재일코리안 일가의 일 대기를 통해 코리안 디아스포라의 기원과 정착을 다룬다. 그 과정에서 재일코리안 문학 의 전형적 소재를 상이하게 활용해 서사를 구현한다. 이를 통해 민족단체, 이데올로기를 극복하고 인간 자체에 집중하며 기존 재일코리안 문학과 차별화를 이룬다. 텍스트는 혐오와 차별로 집단과 개인의 관계를 규정한다. 일본의 사회와 행정제도 같 은 외부적 요인은 재일코리안을 타자로 규정하고 일본인과 구분짓는다. 반면 일본인 개 개인은 재일코리안을 인간이라는 보다 근원적인 관점에서 접근한다. 이를 통해 외부에서 개인을 분리해낸다. 『파친코』는 기독교와 유대인이라는 서구적 요소에서 디아스포라의 기원을 찾는다. 여기에 재일코리안으로 대표되는 한민족의 역사를 접목시켜 계급, 국가, 인종에 국한되지 않는 위치로 수렴시킨다. 나아가 디아스포라 현상을 일본인에게 연결해 계급, 국가, 인종 을 초월한 인류 보편의 문제로 만든다. 코리안 디아스포라 서사를 인류 보편적 현상으로 수렴되는 디아스포라 문학으로 구현 한다. 이를 통해 소수민족, 이민자 등 디아스포라로 확장해 국적, 인종, 민족이 소거된 인 간을 구현해 문학적 공감과 보편성을 획득한다. 『파친코』를 디아스포라 문학의 관점으로 해석함으로써 글로벌시대 코리안 디아스포라 문학의 가치와 실제적 영향력을 확인할 수 있다.
