The purpose of this study is to reinterpret Augustine's meaning of conversion from the point of view of correction. In this study, the issue of conversion is developed in connection with the main theme of Augustinian philosophy, self-reflection, and at the same time, the development of the discussion is expanded to the issue of humanistic correction. In addition, the possibility of connection between the concept of conversion and the concept of correction is explored. The main contents of this study are as follows. First, the original meaning of Augustine's conversion is realization through self-reflection. Second, conversion has the meaning of self-purification. It is purification that restores a human who has lost and forgotten his original state to his original state. Third, conversion in philosophy was to recover the original self through self-reflection, as Augustine thought. And by conversion, he became a better being than he is now. Fourth, the essential meaning of humanistic correction is to restore human beings, that is, to restore them to original human beings so that they can lead a correct communal life with others. Fifth, the core of the restoration of human nature, which is the ultimate goal of correction, is self-reflection. This means that it is necessary to provide prisoners with an opportunity for self-reflection. Sixth, through the process of realizing the true self, human beings reach the stage of conversion. And this conversion can be seen as the same meaning as a prisoner correcting himself. Correcting oneself can be philosophically expressed as self-purification. Seventh, conversion in philosophy was to restore the original self through self-reflection, as Augustine thought. And by conversion, he became a better being than he is now. This is the essential meaning of humanistic correction.

이 연구의 목적은 아우구스티누스의 회심(conversion) 의미를 교정(correction)의 관점에서 재해석하는 것이다. 이 연구에서는 회심의 문제를 아우구스티누스 철학의 주요 주제인 자기 반성적 사유와 연계하여 논의를 전개하면서 동시에 인문학적 교정 문제 로 논의 전개를 확대한다. 그리고 회심 개념과 교정 개념의 연계 가능성을 탐색한다. 이 연구의 내용은 크게 다음과 같다. 첫째, 아우구스티누스의 회심이 지닌 본래의 의미는 자기반성에 따른 깨달음이다. 둘째, 회심은 자기를 정화하는 의미를 지닌다. 자기 본래의 상태를 잃 어버리고 망각한 인간을 본래의 상태로 되돌리는 것은 바로 정 화이다. 셋째, 철학에서의 회심은 아우구스티누스의 생각처럼 자 기성찰로 본래의 자신을 회복하는 것이었다. 그리고 회심으로 현 재보다 더 나은 존재가 되는 것이었다. 넷째, 인문학적 교정 (correction)이 지닌 본질적 의미는 인간의 회복, 즉 본래의 인 간으로 회복시켜 타인과 그리고 올바른 공동체적인 삶을 영위하 게 하는 것이다. 다섯째, 교정의 궁극적 목적인 인간 본성 회복 의 핵심은 바로 자기성찰이다. 이는 곧 수형자(受刑者)에게 자기 성찰의 기회를 제공하는 것이 필요하다는 뜻이다. 여섯째, 참된 자아를 깨닫는 과정을 통해 인간은 회심의 단계에 도달한다. 그리고 이러한 회심은 수형자가 자기 스스로 교정(矯正)하는 것과 같은 의미로 볼 수 있다. 자기 자신을 교정한다는 것은 철학적으 로 자기정화(自己淨化)라고 표현할 수 있다. 일곱째, 철학에서의 회심은 아우구스티누스의 생각처럼 자기성찰로 본래의 자신을 회복하는 것이었다. 그리고 회심으로 현재보다 더 나은 존재가 되는 것이었다. 이는 곧 인문학적 교정(correction)이 지닌 본질적 의미이다.
