The purpose of this study is to explore the possibility as a “21st century-type copy of Chunhyangjeon” through the story analysis of the sitcom drama “Chunhyangjeon” based on Chunhyangjeon. As the contents of “Chunhyangjeon” began to be mass-produced in various media, interest in storytelling as well as production methods increased. In particular, this is the spin-off method in which a character who was a supporting actor in the original film is set as the main character. Byun Hak-do, the antagonist in Chunhyangjeon, and Bangja and Hyangdan, the body species of Mongryong and Chunhyang, are subject to the spin-off. Accordingly, he paid attention to the contents of the sitcom drama Chunhyangjeon, which spun off Byun Hak-do, Bang-ja, and Hyang-dan of Chunhyangjeon. Byun Hak-do, seen as a spin-off, played the role of a savior, not an antagonist with Chunhyang, Bang-ja was built as a perfect male character with a scholar-like look with both literary and dance, and Hyang-dan was transformed into a character with the same spirit of Chunhyang. The supporting character of Chunhyangjeon became the main character in the sitcom content, but it was difficult to develop the story except for Chunhyang and Mongryong, the main characters of Chunhyangjeon. On the surface, it seems to be a new story of the supporting actors in Chunhyangjeon, but beyond that surface, it was talking about Chunhyang and Mongryong. The sitcom drama Chunhyangjeon, which looked into the spin-off, was able to confirm the possibility of transforming the supporting character of Chunhyangjeon, as well as being reborn as a new 21st century Chunhyangjeon by paradoxically showing Chunhyangjeon.

본 연구는 『춘향전』 소재 시트콤 드라마 <춘향전>의 스토리 분석을 통해 ‘21세기형 춘향전 이본’으로서 가능성을 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 다양한 매체에서 <춘향전> 콘텐츠가 양산되기 시작하면서 스토리텔링은 물론 제작 방식에도 관심이 높아졌다. 특히, 원작에서 조연이었던 캐릭터를 주인공으 로 설정하는 스핀오프 방식이 그러하다. 『춘향전』에서의 적대자 변학도와 몽룡과 춘향의 몸종인 방자와 향단이가 스핀오프 대상이다. 이에 『춘향전』의 변학도, 방자, 향단을 스핀오프 한 시트콤 드라마 <춘향전> 콘텐츠에 주목하였다. 스핀오프로 본 변학도는 춘향과 적대자가 아닌 구원자 역할을 하고, 방자는 문무를 겸비한 선비 같은 모습의 완벽한 남성 캐릭터로 구축되었고, 향단은 춘향 이 같은 정신을 갖춘 캐릭터로 변모하였다. 『춘향전』의 조연 캐릭터가 시트콤 콘텐츠에서 주연 캐릭터가 되었지만, 『춘향전』의 주인공인 춘향과 몽룡을 빼놓고는 스토리 전개가 어려웠다. 표면적으로는 『춘향전에 등장한 조연들의 새로운 이야기인 것처럼 보이지만 그 표면 너머에서 는 춘향과 몽룡의 이야기를 하고 있던 것이다. 스핀오프로 들여다본 시트콤 드라마 <춘향전>은 『춘향전』의 조연 캐릭터의 변모 가능성을 확인할 수 있었음은 물론이고, 『춘향전』을 역설적으로 다시 보여 줌으로써 21세기형 새로운 <춘향전>으로 거듭날 수 있었다.
