This study examine the success factors of Korean comedy films by analyzing the laugh production method of the movie through close consideration of the theory of laugh production and ironic techniques of comedy. In general, comedy pursues a superiority laughter production method through the formation of tripartite relationship, which can be confirmed in Korean broadcast comedy programs. However, the characters in do not show the characteristics of tripartite relationship. If tripartite relationship is used, the main characters of should make them the object of laughter by punishing the wicked through trickery or wit, but the film depicts a growth narrative in which they would win victory through their abilities and ceaseless efforts. This story creates laughter while combining with expressive forms of comedy such as play on words and slapstick. In addition, produces laughter through the use of ironic techniques. The irony of the situation of running a chicken restaurant during an undercover operation to arrest criminals would constitute the central story of the film, which shows the reversal of the story through the repetition of the irony of the situation in various episodes. The film shows the irony of characters such as the first gangbuster team member who breaks away from the stereotype of a homicide detective, the power-hungry boss, the police chief and the second violent team chief who destroyed the cliche of a rival relationship and the image of corrupt cop. 본 연구는 코미디의 웃음 생산 이론 및 아이러니 기법을 통해 영화 <극한직업>의 웃음 생산 방식을 분석함으로써 한국 코미디 영화의 흥행요인을 살펴보고 자 하였다. 일반적으로 코미디는 3자적 관계를 통한 우월론적 웃음 생산 방식을 추구하며, 이는 방송 코미디 프로그램에서도 확인할 수 있다. 그러나 <극한직업> 의 등장인물은 3자적 관계의 특성을 보이지 않고 있다. 3자적 관계를 활용한다면 주인공들은 속임수나 재치 등을 통해 악인을 처벌함으로써 그들을 웃음의 대상 으로 만들어야 하지만 영화는 이들의 능력과 노력으로 승리를 쟁취하는 성장 서 사를 그려낸다. 이러한 스토리는 언어의 유희, 슬랩스틱, 과장 등 웃음 유발 요소 와 결합해 웃음을 창출한다. 또한 아이러니 기법을 활용하고 있다. 잠복 중 치킨 가게를 운영하는 상황의 아이러니가 중심 스토리이며, 에피소드 내에서도 상황의 아이러니 반복을 통해 반전을 보여준다. 강력계 형사에 대한 고정관념을 벗어난 허당 이미지의 강력 1팀원 모습, 권력을 탐하는 상사, 라이벌 관계의 부패한 경 찰이라는 클리셰를 파괴한 경찰서장과 강력 2팀 과장 등 인물의 아이러니 또한 나타난다. 이밖에도 범인을 잡는 순간 이질적인 배경음악의 등장 등 다양한 아이 러니 기법을 활용함으로써 관객이 예측하지 못한 순간을 만들고 이를 통해 웃음 을 창출하고 있다.
