The relationship between the Republic of Korea and Japan is intertwined with history, politics, culture, and social context that the relationship between the two is perceived as complex. Moreover, it is inevitable that disagreements continue to exist between the two regarding Japan’s colonization of Korea in 1910. However, the relationship between the two States can also be perceived as cooperative. The cooperative relationship between the two States can be seen through their bilateral treaty relations. This article aims to analyze the bilateral treaties between ROK and Japan and interpret them with the rules of interpretation under the law of treaties. This article will demonstrate that despite the historical and political disputes between the two States, the States also maintain a cooperative relationship.

대한민국과 일본의 관계는 역사, 정치, 문화, 사회적 맥락으로 얽혀 있어 양자의 관계가 복합적으로 인식되고 있습니다. 더욱이 1910년 일본의 한국 식민지화와 관련 하여 양자 사이에 이견이 지속적으로 존재할 수밖에 없는 상황입니다. 다만, 양국의 관계 역시 협력적인 것으로 인식될 수 있습니다. 양국의 협력적 관계는 양자간 조약 관계를 통해서도 알 수 있습니다. 이 연구는 한국과 일본의 양자간 조약을 분석하고 조약법상의 해석 규칙으로 해석하는 것을 목적으로 합니다. 이 연구는 양국 간의 역 사적, 정치적 분쟁에도 불구하고 국가 역시 협력적인 관계를 유지하고 있음을 보여줄 것입니다.
