The recent vitalization of ICT technology alongside the external impact of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis impels museums and research institutes to increase their investment in non-face-to-face content, including online exhibitions. Furthermore, as digitalization begins in earnest throughout the archaeological community, discussions on the related database establishment are on the steady rise. This article introduces Italy's South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology as a reference case. This museum is famed for housing Ötzi, the Iceman and maintains a vast online database to foster research efforts on Ötzi. Its well organized and interlinked dataset ranges from basic background information to academic papers through interrelated search options. It has characteristics of a semantic database/archive. Such information depot enables visitors to taste and search for a wide range of the related knowledge. Thus, this research-oriented website helps not only to disseminate the outcomes of research but also enhance the public awareness and participation. In addition, some other cases including World Museum and ResearchSpace of the British Museum and Europeana allow the easy access to selected archaeological data and promote academic research through websites. These cases demonstrate that websites can serve as the platform for sharing general knowledge about archaeological data and promoting further research by specialists. As such, websites have abundant potential as a platform to provide the public with in-depth education and to lead continuous research on museum collections. It is therefore necessitated to utilize websites by forging more interactive and systematic database as an effective internet-based toolkit in the future.
