The purpose of this study is to explore the narrative of master's students' art therapy clinical practicum experiences in hospice palliative care units, with a focus on their developmental process. The researcher used a narrative inquiry method conducting individual interviews with participants to explore their experiences during the art therapy clinical practicum in hospice palliative care units. The participants were four master's students in art therapy who conducted their clinical practicum in hospice palliative care units in Seoul, each spending six months to two years. Through data analysis, five essential themes were derived, as follows: ‘Beginning the clinical practicum with expectations and fears, adapting to the field while overcoming challenges, understanding the role and value of art therapy and becoming aware of the art therapist’s role, experiencing psychological exhaustion through encounters with death and reflecting on life and death, and developing the identity as an art therapist through reflection.' During their art therapy clinical practicum, the master's students faced various challenges and overcame them based on their art therapy theory. Through self-reflection and contemplation on their own lives and art therapy, they began to evolve into skilled and proficient art therapists. This study confirms the process by which master's students develop into novice art therapists with expertise through their clinical practicum in hospice palliative care units. The findings have significance in understanding the initial developmental process of art therapists and can provide insights for planning and implementing educational programs for master's students in art therapy during their hospice clinical practicum.

본 연구는 석사과정생의 발달 과정을 중심으로 호스피스 완화의료 병동 미술치료 임상실습 경험에 대한 내러티브 를 탐구하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 연구자는 내러티브 탐구방법을 사용하여 4인의 연구참여자의 단독 인터뷰를 통해 호스피스 완화의료병동 미술치료 임상실습 경험을 탐색하였다. 연구참여자는 4명의 미술치료 석사 과정생으로 이들은 각자 6개월에서 2년 동안 서울에 위치하고 있는 호스피스 완화의료병동에서 미술치료 임상실 습을 하였다. 자료분석 결과 5개의 본질적 주제를 도출하였고 본질적 주제는 다음과 같다. ‘기대와 두려움을 가지고 임상실습을 시작함, 어려움을 해결해 나가면서 현장에 적응함, 미술치료의 역할과 가치를 이해하고 미술치 료사의 역할을 자각함, 내담자의 죽음으로 심리적 소진을 경험하며 삶과 죽음을 성찰함, 성찰을 통해 미술치료사 로서의 정체성을 발달시킴’이다. 미술치료 석사과정생들은 자신이 가진 미술치료 이론을 바탕으로 경험하는 임상 실습 과정에서 많은 어려움을 극복하면서 자신의 삶과 미술치료에 대한 성찰 과정을 거쳐 전문성을 갖춘 미술치료 사로 성장하기 시작한다. 본 연구는 호스피스 병동 임상실습 과정을 통해 석사과정생이 초보 미술치료사로 전문성 을 갖춰가는 과정을 확인했다는 의의가 있으며 이상의 연구결과는 미술치료사의 초기 발달과정을 이해함과 동시 에 미술치료 석사과정생들의 호스피스 임상실습현장에서의 교육과정을 계획하고 운영하는데 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다.
