The role Seo Geo-jeong played in the early days of the founding of the Joseon Dynasty was really important. He continued to serve in high-ranking government posts and as a ‘Munhyung(文衡)’, he took all responsibility for writing important documents of nation. His writings were vast, including legal codes, history, geography, and literature. The historical books "Samguksajeolyo(三國史節要)" and "Dongguk Tonggam(東國通鑑)" which were completed during King Seongjong's reign, were a collaboration of the leaders of the Confucian scholars such as Seo Geo-jeong, Shin Sook-ju, and Noh Sa-sin, but it is clear that Seo Geo-jeong is the most important author of the preface and full text of the two books. His knowledge of literature, law, and geography, which were shown in the writings of "Dongmunseon(東文選)", "Gyeongguk Daejeon(經國大典)", and "Dongguk yeoji seungnam(東國輿地勝覽)", became a great force in historical descriptions. King Sejo and King Seongjong put Seo Geo-jeong in charge of the compilation of history books promoted as a national project because they had deep trust and confidence in their abilities. As a historian and writer, Seo Geo-jeong played a major role in the maintenance of Joseon's early culture and system. And he is positively evaluated as we can see in the "Joseon wangjo sillok(朝鮮王朝實錄)". In particular, it is highly regarded that Seo Geo-jeong was fluent in various theories and was an authority in writing. Although Seo Geo-jeong's aspect as a writer and as a compilator of "Dongmunseon(東文選)" has been well known so far, his status as a historian has not been much evaluated. However, considering that it played a major role in the compilation of "Samguksajeolyo(三國史節要)" and "Dongguk Tonggam(東國通鑑)" which were promoted as a national compilation project in the early Joseon Dynasty, it is necessary to evaluate the status of Seo Geo-jeong.
