This study examined the relationship between the editing process and timing of the compilation of Hong Da Rong's Korean Yan Xing (燕行) record, Yibingyanxinglu (乙丙燕行錄), which has not been covered in detail in previous studies. The study compared this work with the Chinese versions of the Ganjinglu (乾凈錄) and Yan Xing texts and analyzed the relationship between them. The following facts were uncovered based on the literature data of various Yan Xing records compiled by Hong Da Rong. Firstly, the reason why Hong Da Rong compiled “乙丙燕行錄” was that he had prepared several trips to Yan Xing, and he considered the literature of the Yan Xing records to be very valuable. After visiting Beijing, he intentionally compiled his Yan Xing records. After the compilation of the Chinese version of Ganjinglu, the Korean version of Yibingyanxinglu was compiled shortly thereafter. Secondly, the Korean version of Yibingyanxinglu is the best written Yan Xing diary. “YanJi(燕記)” and “writing conversation(筆譚)” records were written by the subject category. In Yibingyanxinglu, the same items are compared and explained using various examples as the Ganjingbitan, Ganjingtongbitan, and YanJi records. This study found that Yibingyanxinglu is not a Yan Xing record, but was translated from an original copy of the abovementioned Chinese versions of Ganjinglu and YanJi. Thirdly, as the content of Yibingyanxinglu is very similar to the content of Ganjinglu, it is presumed that these two copies are diary memos that were written by Hong Da Rong during his visit to China at the time. It is difficult to determine whether the diary memos were written in the Chinese or Korean language. This problem can be solved only when evidence related to these copies is found. Through the above findings, this study was able to understand the background and timing of the compilation of the Korean version of Yibingyanxinglu compiled by Hong Da Rong, and its relationship with the Chinese texts. This study offers valuable data for future research on the vast collection of Yan Xing records compiled by Hong Da Rong.

본 연구는 기존의 선행연구에서 자세히 다루지 못한 홍대용의 한글 연행기록 『을병연행록』을 편찬한 경위와 시기를 고찰하고, 한문본 『건정록(乾凈錄)』과 『연기(燕記)』 등 한문본 연행기록의 텍스트와 상호 비교하여, 그 연관 관계를 고찰한 것이다. 홍대용이 편찬한 여러 연행기록 문헌 자료를 근거하여 아래와 같은 사실을 밝혔다. 첫째, 홍대용이 『을병연행록󰡕을 편찬한 이유는 그가 연행을 위해 많은 준비를 하였고 연행기록의 문헌을 상당히 중요하게 여겼으며, 북경에 다녀온 후 의도적이고 체계적으로 여러 연행기록을 편찬하였기 때문이다. 한문본 『건정록』을 편찬한 후 가까운 시기에 한글본 『을병연행록』을 편찬하였다. 둘째, 한글본 『을병연행록』은 가장 잘 쓰인 일기체 연행기록 텍스트이다. “연기”와 “필담” 계열은 주제별로 작성한 연행기록이다. 『을병연행록󰡕과 『건정필담(乾凈筆譚)』, 『건정동필담(乾凈衕筆譚)』, 『연기(燕記)』등의 텍스트 내용을 구체적인 사례를 들어 비교한 결과, 『을병연행록』은 상기 한문본을 저본(底本)으로 번역한 연행록이 아니라는 사실을 규명하였다. 셋째, 『을병연행록』의 내용은 『건정록』의 내용과 가장 근접하여 두 가지의 모본(母本)은 홍대용이 연행 당시의 일기 메모장으로 추정된다. 당시의 일기 메모장은 한자로 작성한 것인지, 아니면 한글로 작성한 것인지는 단정하기는 어렵다. 이와 관련 증빙 자료가 발굴되어야 이와 같은 문제를 해결할 수 있다. 본 연구는 홍대용이 편찬한 한글본 『을병연행록』의 편찬 배경과 시기 및 한문본 텍스트의 관계를 파악할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 향후 홍대용이 편찬한 방대한 연행기록 문헌 자료를 연구하는 데 참고가치가 있다고 사료된다.
