Objectives This study examined the content system of the area of expression in the physical education curriculum to confirm and apply changes in elementary dance education according to the 2022 revised curriculum. Methods The 2022 revised curriculum was analyzed focusing on the content system and achievement standards of the elementary school physical education subject expression area. Results The results of the study are as follows. First, the content of the area of expression consists of the process of understanding (knowledge and understanding), performing (process and function), and finding meaning (value and attitude) focusing on expressing thoughts and emotions aesthetically and creatively through body movements. Second, detailed areas and examples of expression areas present basic expressions of basic movements, expression methods of basic movements, and sports·traditional·modern expression activities, and clear concepts and consistency of the terms and categories used are required. Third, the achievement standard in the area of expression is to develop imitation, abstract, rhythm, and tool expression skills that can express feelings and thoughts through movement, and it is important to understand the creative and aesthetic characteristics of movement technology. Conclusions Elementary dance education is an important way to understand the value of expression, perform creative body expression, and develop an aesthetic perspective. In order to realize this, research and practical efforts for classes are needed based on an accurate understanding of the dance curriculum.

본 연구는 2022 개정 교육과정에 따른 초등무용교육의 실행과 교수학습을 위한 시사점을 제공하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 교육부와 한국교육과정평가원의 국가교육과정 정보센터의 홈페이지에 탑재된 2022 개 정 교육과정 초등학교 체육교과 표현 영역의 내용 체계와 성취기준을 중심으로 분석하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 표현 영역의 내용은 신체의 움직임을 통해 생각과 감정을 심미적·창의적으로 표현 하는 것을 중심으로 이를 이해하고(지식⋅이해), 수행하고(과정⋅기능), 의미를 찾는(가치⋅태도) 과정으 로 구성된다. 둘째, 표현 영역의 세부 영역과 예시는 기본 움직임의 기초 표현, 기본 움직임의 표현 방 법, 스포츠·전통·현대 표현활동 등을 제시하고 있는데, 사용되는 용어와 범주에 대한 명확한 개념과 일관성이 필요하다. 셋째, 표현 영역의 성취기준은 느낌과 생각을 움직임으로 표현할 수 있는 모방·추 상·리듬·도구 표현 능력을 기르는 것이며, 움직임 기술의 창의적이고 심미적인 특성을 이해하는 것이 중요하다. 초등무용교육은 표현의 가치를 이해하고 창의적인 신체 표현을 수행하며 심미적 안목을 기르 는 중요한 방법이다. 이를 실현하기 위해서는 무용교육과정에 대한 정확한 이해를 바탕으로 수업을 위한 연구와 실천적 노력이 필요하다. 이에 본 연구는 2022 개정 초등학교 체육과 표현 영역의 내용 체계와 성취기준을 분석함으로써 초등무용교육의 실행을 위한 유용한 정보를 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
